It seems all the money their Nintendo 3DS has printed was wasted on the Wii U.

But haven't we had this discussion a thousand times over by now, or are they just very similar?

Everyone knows the Wii U has been hurting since its first Christmas in 2012 and this previous holiday season was ruled by the PS4 and X-BONE. If the Wii U didn't fly off the shelf a year before the other companies release their next consoles, Nintendo should have just stopped production immediately, slowed down even, for damage control and wait for an increase in demand.

Personally I blame the name and shallow pool of games. I considered getting one just to play Monster Hunter Ultimate 3 and the Dynasty Warriors Legend of Zelda mashup to be coming soon, but I got a 3ds which has about 5 more games I'd like to play than the Wii U.

    PC master race

I only got a Wii U for Pikmin 3, Windwaker HD (since i've no way to play the original anymore), and potentially SSB4, which i may as well have gotten for 3DS.

And speaking of SSB4, this is a game they could have easily released ALOT sooner if they wanted to save the Wii U. It's not like they're struggling to finish a game like this in time.

Mark my words, they'll make a gamepad with a 3D touch-screen which you need to point at your tv screen like a WiiMote. It will only have the standard buttons, a D-pad, and a joystick awkwardly placed in the bottom-center of the gamepad below the touch-screen.

Their next gen console will most likely be called the Wii Them, Wii Him, Wii Her, or Wii Me. Or if they want to be witty, they should call it the Wii Gii.

I may be joking about all of this, but i think the odds of one of the above happening are actually pretty high.

Stop putting so much effort into releasing remakes or clones and allow good 3rd party Wii U exclusives? I know people would like to see a remake of many of the GameCube 'classics', but a console can't survive off of remakes alone.

Maybe it's about time to start retiring or get away from the many of the known and exploitable mascots where a Nintendo game is basically REQUIRED to have at least one either on the cover or plays a major role in the game itself.
[And just then, many voiced cried out in a fit of rage directed at one user]
I'm serious, look at this list.
"Mario, Luigi, Donkey Kong, Link, Samus, Fox, Captain Olimar, Pikachu, and Kirby"
Think of as many Wii/Wii U/3DS games as you can.
How many do not have any of these 9 poster children as their focus?
Monster Hunter and Fire Emblem are the first two I thought of.

It seems all Nintendo really has for IP's anymore are Mario, Donkey Kong, Zelda, and Pokemon.

They need some new ones. *cough*and more Professor Layton games*cough*

Are the Professor Layton games actually good?

The Layton games are super great, in my opinion.

But there's a chance this could be NIntendo's last home console.

No, there really isn't. Where are you getting this from, man?

    Yes, it's not doing well.
No, Nintendo won't stop. Things have flopped before for Nintendo, but they never give up.

But if the current trend does keep up, it could end up being suicide for it. While I'm not sure how much Nintendo nets off of console sells, facts remain that if fewer people buy it than expected and they only buy a couple of game, profits will drop. Hence why I stated that if they would move away from big named mascots to new stories and add a few Wii U exclusives from other companies, maybe it would be less of an uphill fight for them.

The Dreamcast's problems were costly production that relied on sales of games to make up for it, which didn't go too well.

Olimar is only in one game of the three systems you listed. Kirby has a 3DS game (Epic Yarn wasn't originally going to be a Kirby game).

Fox only has one 3DS game, and that's a remake of Star Fox 64.

You kind of missed the whole "game that don't use the 9 listed" part. Because the 9 mascots are all well known, Nintendo does not want to get rid of them in fear that the new ones don't sell or receive the same attention. The creative department is stuck, everything they do now should fit into some sort of canon or timeline which restricts their creative bounds. Because of this we get sequels for the games that can afford to further its lore that may add a new unessential character or a remake with new game mechanics added.

The Wii U has about 114 games that are not downloads so says a Wiki page from October '13, so this is a just a rough estimate, when I went through Nintendo's list of games I counted about 74 games without any of its trademarked mascots. The majority of them are sports, driving, movie/tv show adaptations, fitness, and other guff I've never seen.

    Sixty-four percent
of Wii U's games are CRAP! Does this make sense to anybody? Because it sure as hell baffles me!
If I were Nintendo's CEO I would FIRE everyone who were involved in lining up 64% of my games as things that Gamestop will sell for $5!

Honestly, this is the time to buy a PS3 if I had to recommend a console to buy. The next gen is out and flailing around like a fish in a desert, games are being released into both generations, and buying pre-owned games is actually viable. I wouldn't bother with a 360 just because it's a dwarf PC and the majority of its games are on PC.

Like I said before, it's not Nintendo's fault people don't buy their new IPs when they bother to make them.

It's someone's fault and the customers sure as hell aren't banding together in an effort to not buy from Nintendo.

Someone better call an ambulance for Nintendo, they're bleeding profits all over the place and can't seem to see why.
