Anyone here play, or ever thought about starting up a server? I used the search, but couldn't finding anything relating to the topic. Was wondering if anyone wanted to play. Xbox 360 or PC.

We've had some servers up (For PC) in the past, but they all went down long ago. A new one'd be great.
I'd run one, if I had the means to. It was nice having a little Everypony village.

I play Minecraft quite a bit, it tends to be my go to game while waiting for preorders, or just in times of general boredom. I've searched for people/servers on various game sites as well, but such threads tend to get hardcore trolled. But I'm sure there are some going somewhere out there. Currently I only own the Xbox version, though I don't have gold. But if a group/server were to get started, I'd be interested.

I have a cracked copy of Minecraft. Sometimes my brother sets it up so we can play together, and we fight to the death.

I think its LAN or something. I dunno.

Since we ARE talking about Minecraft, can I just ask someone who has one of the consoles versions - why did you buy it? How are the controls? I hear they do a lot of moderation, too.

Do you guys play vanilla or what?

Okie-dokie-lokie I'll try to answer your questions, and add a little extra info. I own the the Xbox version so only have first hand experience with that, but I imagine the other console versions will be virtually identical.

    -"why did you buy it?"-
    -Personal reasons-
My PC is on it's last legs, so until I can build a new one, I don't want to put any unnecessary strain on it. Also I just prefer to play games on a big screen TV, using a controller and sitting in my fuzzy chair, it's just a more comfortable setup.

    -Stability & Ease-
Even with top of the line computers, Minecraft has issues with lag and crashes. Also from what I understand, setting up multiplayer and installing mods can be tricky for those not familiar with it. I've had none of those issues on console, it consistently runs smooth and has yet to crash for me. While I've never played online multiplayer, I've heard that it's as easy to join as any other console games. It also supports couch co-op, making it very easy to play with others, while maintaining the hiccup free experience.

    -Additional things of note-

    -Negatives-
Just to list a couple of the bad points in the console version. The generated worlds are not infinite. While they give you a decent area to play around with, resources are limited, and RNG means you might (rarely) lack a resource entirely. That being said, honestly you'll probably get bored with the map long before you actually run
out of anything. Also the draw distance isn't as far as some might like. While not super short, if you go about building a sprawling metropolis, you probably won't be able to see one end from another.

    -Other Notables-
The console version has a true manual and auto-save system. So if you happen to fall into lava (accident or otherwise) and lose that diamond pickaxe of amazingness IV, you can rage quit and reload your last save with everything just as it was. Now while you'll never have the type of customizing that's possible on PC, the
consoles are getting a bit in the way of DLC. At the moment these are just avatar, texture, and mash up packs, and 4J studios has been rather classy about it. Giving trial versions of each DLC, letting you fully see what your buying before hand.

    -"How are the controls?"-
It's hard to really say as controls are a personal thing, but in my experience it handles rather well. The closest example I can think to give is that it plays similarly to a FPS. While there is no option to button map yet, there are three different layouts to choose from. Also the game's sensitivity setting has a pretty high threshold, so it feels comfortable, rather then like you're having to adapt. Running however can be a hassle, requiring a double tap forward that doesn't always work, would have preferred it mapped to a button myself. Finally organizing inventory is done with a kind of simulated mouse cursor, using the joysticks for movement, which comes off rather clunky. It's also tied in with your sensitivity setting, so if it's high, that cursor will be zooming nigh uncontrollably. Thankfully though you can also use the D-pad the navigate inventory, but it's on a square by square basis, so it still makes sorting a chore

-"Do you guys play vanilla or what?"-
I generally just play normal survival using one of my favorite texture packs, unless I've got a big project in mind. Then I'll make a flatland world on peaceful and use creative to figure it out, generally saving the world for future reference.

Not quite sure what you meant by moderation, but I hope that helped, and I'll be happy to try and answer anything else ... or there is always the wiki.

I play on PC, I use a modpack I made just for fun. But I go onto 1.8 for joining servers and 1.7.10 for modded gameplay. I was thinking of making a server, but I don't have any money to keep it up. I'll see what I can do.
