Well in case you guys haven't noticed (don't worry, I know you haven't) I haven't been here much lately these past...I dunno, 2-3 months. That's because I am literally freakin OBSESSED with Dark Souls. Yeah I know, I got into it a bit late, but not too late to enjoy a few weeks of high level pvp. And now, Dark Souls 2 is going to be unleashed upon us this Tuesday. Brace thyselves. Oh my... [Props go to Saikyo for showing me this epic pic ^.^] So yeah, who here has played them some Dark Souls?
Dark Souls 2 D-d-d-d-drop the sign! And thus, the world stood still for a day. Except for the Skyrim players. They kept wandering around their huge, empty, toybox.
Oh Solaire... If only you knew I really DID have feelings for you... Solaire died my first playthrough; goddamn sun bug got him. I looked it up and my ng+ playthrough was dedicated solely to making sure Solaire survived every encounter (including phantom form Solaire during bosses). He was so depressed... :c Spoiler: Also this
Haha, I have sooo many pictures that are relevant to this thread, but they are all so, so inappropriate for this forum hehe. But this is my favorite Dark Souls video, always cheers me up. Also probably my favorite video under a minute long. xD Some mild-ish language Forest lulz
All I know about Dark Souls is it's impossible and there's a knight with a sun fetish. Someone care to enlighten me a bit? Like story, general objectives, etc.
Dark Souls: Prepare to Cry series. Go watch it for some heavy stuff. It's not even close to impossible. The game does punish you severely for your mistakes though. It's more of a steep learning curve than impossible difficulty. As for story, the games don't really focus on story that much. There is a lot to learn about the world, but you have to really pay attention to the details. Things like cross-referencing item descriptions with dialogues from NPCs and stuff. Spoiler: Spoilers The most of the story the game outright tells you is that the world was once ruled by dragons, but Lord Gwyn and his retainers found the sacred flame and used its powers to kill the dragons with the help of the betrayal of Seath the Scaleless. Ever since, Lord Gwyn has ruled Lordran with the power of the flame. It's a bad system, though. Everything is too dependent on the flame. Lordran starts to stagnate and decay, and a curse arises. This curse afflicts people with the Darksign, making them unable to die, instead turning into a zombie-like hollow upon death. That is how the game explains the life/death system of the gameplay. As for your goal, it is simply to ring two bells in two different places of Lordran to open the way to Sen's Fortress. There, you find a way to get to Anor Londo, an ethereal city eerily well-preserved compared to the rest of the country, like a city out of time. There, you find Gwynivere, Lord Gwyn's daughter. She gives you a vessel to carry souls with and pleads for you to stop her corrupted father. In order to gain access to Gwyn, you must defeat his four retainers and take their souls. At the end, you make a choice between reigniting the flame and keeping the cycle going (and becoming the next Lord Gwyn, essentially), are leaving the flame and starting a time of "darkness", which really just means humanity trying to get through things on their own. There's a lot of other stuff that happens and a lot more backstory, but that's the meat of the main game's story and goals.
The story, unlike in other games, is not spoon-fed to you. A lot of people go through the game thinking that there isn't a story at all, but for those that pay attention to detail this game has an extremely deep and complex story that far surpasses most other games. Like Yami said, you have to pay attention to what the NPC's say and cross reference that with item descriptions and events that occur in the game in order to piece the story together for yourself. But even then, there's a lot of reading in between the lines that you have to do before you get the whole picture. Basically, if you don't like using your brain, it's probably not a game you'd enjoy. But, there are a gazillion videos made on the subject that will basically spell it out for you, which helped me to fill in the gaps of what I already knew after I had already beaten the game. As for the Sun-bro, his name is Solaire, and he is basically a walking meme generator. Spoiler: spoiler As for how difficult it is... Spoiler: spoiler
Ugh... I wish that they would just tell us the covenants already T-T I don't want to wait until people get the console version and put it on the wikis. IT'S MY BLOOD COVENANT AND I NEED IT NOW! In all seriousness, though, I'll probably end up doing Way of the Blue or Blood Brothers, the first to help people new to the series and the second because you can INVADE HOLLOW PEOPLE. HOLLOWS GETTIN REKD MHM
Hollows can also summon though, and if they're in the Way of the Blue (I think) then they get insta-bodygaurds.
Once I learn the perfect stunlock set, I'll be good to go against multiple people I'm going to work templar (melee + faith n stuff) and see how it ends out hopefully faith isn't as OP as the first game that wouldn't be fun
I hope invading has a time limit like co-op does. I like being invaded and all, but if I'm going to always be invaded regardless of human or hollow, I think it would only be balanced if invaders had the same kind of limits that co-op does.
In Dark Souls 2, there will be, yeah. I don't know if it's time specifically, or maybe enemies killed or damage dealt, but there's a limit to how long a summoned ally can stick around beyond just dying.
Source? I highly doubt they'd do this after they said that they wanted to improve the summoning interface for friends.
Let me see if I can find a specific source. I'm just going by the countless GameFAQs threads I've seen about it. EDIT: Here you go. http://m.officialplaystationmagazin...are-explain-summoning-convenants-new-features
Ugh, that's bad news. I really wanted there to be capabilities in multiplayer to run through zones and wreck **** together with friends. A timer that decreases with every kill... that just ruins the experience. I understand they did this to essentially give a fat 'No' to ganking, but... still... this can ruin the co-op experience.
