Tha's not necessarily true. From what I read, there are TWO white soapstones. One is a small one, that has a time limit. The other is a normal soapstone. And yes, you can be invaded when hallowed. But priority when invading goes to people in human form, and people who have sinned, before people who are hallowed. Plus there are multiple items and such to reduce the chance of invasions. BUT, we will find out for sure TOMORROW! (I pre-ordered like two months ago, so I'm going to go pick it up tomorrow) From what I've read, I'm not liking a lot of the changes they have made, but I'll find out for myself soon enough. Praise the Sun! (tomorrow!) I really kinda wish I'd spent today getting in one last day of good 'ol Dark Souls, but I had to do boring tax filing BS. Bleh... Well, I'm sure just like a lot of other games, plenty of people will still be playing the previous games for a long time so I'm sure I could still find PvP in Dark Souls a couple months from now if I wanted.
Obviously So how're you liking the 360 version so far? (as compared to PC) Oh btw guys, if anyone else is on the 360 version of Dark Souls 2 and would like to play a bit with a fellow EPN member, my GT is right there on the left so feel free to hit me up. ^.^ You can hit me up no matter what game you're playing actually, but I won't be playing anything other than DkS II for the forseeable future, but eventually I'll move onto other games lol.
Actually, the PC version isn't a port. The game was developed with the PC in mind. The PS3 and 360 versions are more like ports of the PC version.
So far, for me, Dark Souls 2 has been both a fun and frustrating experience. But not in the way you might think. I'll prolly write a longer blog post or something when I experience more of the game, but there is a few smaller things I'll mention now. I'm really not happy with some of the design choices made for this game. Due to the low cost of leveling (at lvl 60 it only costs me 6000 per lvl) and the higher stat req's on weapons (halberd requires 20 STR/14-16 DEX to wield), I believe that not only did they make it easier to level up, but gave incentives to do so. This is partly due to there being more attributes to allot stats into, and leveling up faster makes sure that you don't feel underpowered throughout the game. However, another big reason was to prevent low-level greifing. They also made radical changes to the PvP/invading and summoning system. Now who you invade is not based on SL, but a multitude of other factors. So, now you can't invade lvl 20's even though you're lvl 20 but in NG+. You also can't invade lower level toons if you've beaten the game, because time played and souls acquired are factors in PvP matching. Summon signs have a time limit, so no more ganking. Now, you might say this is fair. But Dark Souls wasn't about what was fair. Dark Souls was about learning and improving the hard-knock way to overcome the challenges set before you and to reap the rewards of your victory. Now, I've been ganked, and I've been low-level greifed. I've also done both myself. I've never whined about it being unfair. If you're facing more than one opponent or a vastly superior one, you either have to improve your skills to overcome the challenge or use superior strategy to outsmart and outmaneuver your opponents. If you fail, then you do what you did the entire game - try over and over and over again until you succeed. Because that was Dark Souls. Skill > levels. Skill > sheer amount of time spent playing. Now everything is fair and balanced. . . how did we go from "Prepare to Die" to this? A couple people who couldn't hack it whined and they took away all our candy? As far as I'm concerned, "if you don't wanna die, then stay hollow" was just fine with me. Dark Souls was never meant to be World of Warcraft. *sigh* There goes all the awesome trolling and gank spank youtube videos I was waiting for... FromSoft, I am disappoint.
I just remember this thread existed. But I feel so behind everyone and somewhat oblivious to about 90% of the game since I go with the "Pick the quickest and most powerful weapon and shield and kill everything trying to kill you" thought process for the game. So far, I just got to what I think is the first Blacksmith after having to outrun and out Benny Hill three undead knights and the a black armored giant weilding King Kong's femur and a black fridge door.. Something tells me running back is a bad idea now.
My issue with it is that the unfairness of Dark Souls kind of added to the appeal, because there was a lot of unpredictability to the PvP. You could be invading a noob who has no idea what they're doing, an experienced player with all the best gear who knows how to PvP, or 3 people all at once. You never knew what to expect. The way it is now it seems like they're trying to make it all even, balanced duels. It's more fair, and I loved dueling in the Township back in Dark Souls, but I also liked to be able to invade and and not knowing what to expect too. The Forest was great for that, you could invade and walk in on a host with 2 white phantoms and 2 blues already duking it out...that kinda stuff was awesome. Although I haven't gotten much experience in DkSII PvP yet so I'm still waiting to pass final judgement on the system. I actually haven't been invaded at all yet, which I'm not sure is a bug or what, maybe I'm just not in the right areas or people my lvl haven't got the ability to endlessly invade yet. Kinda disappointing. ??? I don't remember that being in the beginning of the game. If you're in Majula, that's kinda like the hub for the game, where all the beginning merchants/blacksmith, etc all. From there you wanna head into the forest of the giants, after that head to Heide's tower of Flame, then to No-Man's Wharf. I have a lvl... 10 or so character so if you want you can add me and I can help you out. I also have a lvl... 65? character but by the time you get there you'll prolly have a good idea as to what's what.
I had played a little Dark Souls a while back, but today I restarted the game and pushed to the Undead Parish. Those gargoyles were what stopped me last time, because I ran out of Humanity and therefore couldn't summon Solaire to tank them. This time, I've saved up items to give me Humanity and I've got another six Humanity ready to go. I'll pop 'em after I beat the Knight and that one undead wizard guy in the church. But, after I beat the Gargoyles, where should I go next? Any pointers? If it helps, I've already killed Havel the Rock and found the door behind him, I just haven't entered it yet.
15 hours into DS2 and i still get gang murdered by the zombies in the forest. I guess the only game harder than dark souls is its sequal. I also hate how weapons degrade like wet paper and that dying causes you to lose health.
Are you playing on PC? The weapons degrade twices as fast because they are linked to framerate. Once the gargoyles are down, you can either go to the forest (the room in front of André) or go to the Undead Lower Burg by using the Cellar key you might have found. It's the locked door that is on the other side of the bridge, before Solaire.
Hmm... I've tried both, and they both seem to lead to the Hydra. Is that the boss I need to beat in order to advance in the game? I've tried getting within striking distance of him, but I guess i must be under-leveled or something because he keeps killing me with his ranged attack before I can even get near the water.
? The Lower Undead Burg doesn't lead to the Hydra. Anyway, for the Hydra, you simply need to kill the Ice Giants carefully, then you sprint toward the big rock on the right. Take an Estus if necessary. Then close as much as possible without falling in the void.
We should have PVP fights guys, I really wanna try out my strength faith build~ Praaaiiisee the suuuunnnnn! (\░░░░░░░░░/) ░\\░░░░░░░// ░░\\░(._.)░// ░░░\\_||_// ░░░|▓▓_▓| ░░░|▓|▒|| ░░░|▓▓▓▓| ░░░|____| ░░░(▓▓▓▓) ░░░| || | ░░░| || | ░░░| || | ░░░| || |__ ░░░(___)__) It messed up so bad on the first try lol. Had to fill it in.
... Really? The door where Havel stands totally led me right out into the area where the ice giants stand. I don't have much trouble defeating them as long as I take them one-on-one, but I have major difficulties closing with the hydra. I tried sprinting to the rock but those darn ranged attacks kept getting me, one even knocking me down. I guess I'll try weaving back and forth a bit, to confuse it.
