Let's talk about live music. What are some memorable shows you've been to, what artists were there, and why is it memorable? I'll start off. I saw Paul McCartney live a few days ago. He played 3 hours worth of music, including a ton of old Beatles stuff, and he definitely doesn't sound like a nearly 70 year old man. It's just kind of crazy to hear songs that have influenced generations of musicians being played live by one of the guys who actually wrote them. Plus, after over 50 years of making music he still seems to enjoy performing. If you get the chance, I'd definitely recommend going to one of his concerts. Now your turn!
I think my favorite concert was Paolo Nutini in Philly a couple years back. Paolo isn't super well known in the states because he's from Scotland, so it was amazing to even see him live. It was in this really small venue that only held maybe 100 people so there wasn't a bad seat in the house. It was all very intimate and everyone knew all the words to his songs and were singing along. Not only is Paolo Nutini an amazing artist, but he's a really nice guy too. He went to this ice cream place across the street and invited all of his fans to join him, which I did. So basically I got to watch Paolo play my favorite songs up close, and then got to hang out with him afterwards. It was crazy being able to have ice cream and talk with someone I respect and admire as much as him. It was, without a doubt, one of the best nights of my life.
I have four that stick out for me. First is Elton John, which I thought was really awesome to get to see him perform live! Then there was the Blue Man Group. I like how they make both a comedy show and a concert happen in one go. Seeing the Trans-Siberian Orchestra was really neat. I liked the videos they played during each of their songs. I also got to see a concert with Trapt, Red, and Halestorm. Of the three, Halestorm was my favorite. I even got their CD before it was officially released for cheap! The next concert I'm looking forward to is Volbeat and a couple other bands I don't know lol. Mostly going for Volbeat, because Danish rock is amazing!
I was to a couple of them, but all the artists sucked a*s. Yes, they were horrid. Anyways, if i was living in the USA i'd definitely go to one of Breaking Benjamin.
@Dr.: I don't know anything about Paolo aside from that time you sent me that song of his, but that sounds awesome! Not really a fan of his music, but he sounds like a cool guy. @Lightning: You've seen Elton John? That's crazy! How was it? Also, I definitely agree Blue Man Group and TSO are awesome. TSO's effects blew me away when I saw them.
It was awesome! He didn't need any sort of special effects for his show. Sounded awesome both as a singer and a pianist. I'd see him again. Yeah, the Blue Man Group and TSO both have really good visuals going for them.
My favorite concert ever was The Wailers. Of course, t'was not Bob, but Ziggy. Anyways, I was planing to go see deadmau5, but my Sith Lord of a father said no.
Oh noes! Hopefully some rep giving will alleviate some of that jealousy. I hope you get to see Elton John live some day. I loved it!
I've seen bands mostly, loved them all..! MCR, Paramore, 30STM etc I'd LOVE to see Sting (The Police) live and go to a festival (weekend gig) since I've only ever been to one night/one band+support concerts. I also have a nondescript dream about hosting an EPR Live Pony Band Festival but that'll be some way off yet I'm sure ^^ Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
I've performed with the school's jazz band multiple times live at various events, but I've never been to a legitimate concert Also doesn't help that none of the bands I like ever visit here, since it's not exactly the local choice of music
Haha, thanks! That definitely softened my jealousy a little bit, but nothing can be equal to the actual experience of seeing Elton live. =]
Was that one show with those three bands, or separate shows? They would all be awesome live either way, but if that was all one show, the awesomeness would be overpowering! A brony festival would be amazing! Since you can't do that yet though, maybe you could start moving in that direction by getting a few artists to provide live versions of some of their pony inspired songs, and stream them on the radio? I'm not sure if that's possible, or likely, but it would still be neat. @Derpy Hooves: a lot of artists take requests from fans on where they should visit while on tour. Maybe if you told some artists you like about a local venue, they could book a show there? For example, the town I live in is relatively small, but bands come here all the time because they're usually willing to play just about anywhere that's willing to book them.
Sorry for the double post, but since it's been a while I thought I'd bump this with another story. I saw Death Cab for Cutie with So Many Dynamos as the opener a few years ago. Death Cab was one of my first favorite bands, so it was pretty awesome to be able to see them.
Seen Coldplay a half-dozen times (met them and saw a few shows front row before that got harder), Radiohead (and after party, HTTT tour), Chemical Brothers, BT, Basement Jaxx (dj set), FLA, Lords of Acid, MLWTTKK, NIN (Downward Spiral Tour), KMFDM, Rammstein, Death Cab For Cutie, The Libertines & Muse both in a small club, The Cure, Interpol, not that anyone would want to see them anymore but The Strokes were kinda lame; no talking to the audience and no encore, bleh. I've been lucky and the rest of the guys I mentioned were all pretty good.
I saw Enter Shikari last month... they were amazing, absolutely amazing. If you haven't heard 'em I suggest you look 'em up.
I'm still thinking about a Brony Festival... It just NEEDS to happen and no, alas those bands were all seperate concerts! as for ENTER ShIKAri, they supported 30STM; I loved them live, they have a fantastic stage prescence but in all honesty their albums and music in general doesn't do anything for me :/
I went to a concert for "The Specials" on 31/10/2011, it was amazing because all the songs were from my child years, so they ring timeless to me. BRONY FESTIVAL? I mean uhh...how much for tickets?
It would be cool for such a thing to happen Wizard Rock and Nerdcore really solidifed as movements when festivals/conventions began to occur. It's likely big enough to be a PART of something (if not it's own festival)
