Genuine in the sense that you do go out of your way to practice it and not being easily discouraged like the ones who just follow L&T just to fit in.

As for how this lecture can help you, they key to acceptance is understanding, right? With addicts specifically, it gives you an idea how they became one in the first place which tends to be quite tragic... and that judging them won't help them at all. It can help us understand each other better and give us a better idea of how to support one another. Addiction is not a problem in itself, rather it is a symptom of a much larger problem. Chances are good you're going to be quite surprised as I was as I watched it myself and yet the pieces do fit.
