    Prelude: Just a Nightmare

The purple unicorn trotted down the dark path. She wasn't sure how she got there... but she knew that home was down this route.

All was not entirely dark, at least. The moon was shining down upon her, and she could clearly see the mark of the mare, Luna, upon the moon's bright surface.

Or... perhaps she was mistaken. The moon held instead a strange and less distinct pattern upon it. It reminded her vaguely of a rabbit, and in staring at it she began to feel very out of place. Trotting further along the path, she came into Ponyville. The houses of the town loomed ominously over her, seeming to gather around her as she continued.

The town was filling with the blackest of shadows, as not even the light of the moon could comfort her. It made her head sink low as she felt fear run along her spine. Home is just beyond the park, Twilight... she reassured herself.

Then, she saw a pair of golden eyes shine from the alley beside her. A feeling of dread over-whelmed her, and she took off in a gallop. Her hooves beat upon the ground as she continued through Ponyville, but the row of homes only continued on.

She made a sudden stop as she found herself in a dead end! Three houses cornered her... but she didn't remember this spot ever being in town! She whipped around, ready to run out, when another unicorn stood at the entrance of the alley way, silhouetted in blackness. Golden eyes glowed from the dark unicorn, and a deep voice spoke her name. "Twilight Sparkle..."

She huffed and chanced a response. "Who are you? What have you done to me?"

The sky suddenly grew dark, as black clouds sprawled across, blanketing the light of the moon. Those haunting eyes were all that was left. "I am your new study partner." He chuckled with a sinister tone she hadn't heard before.

Feeling endangered, she closed her eyes, and her horn glowed brightly with reddish purple energy, and her body was enveloped with similar power. She flashed from where she was... and she imagined herself home.

Because home is where she wanted to teleport to.

Instead, she was in darkness, complete and total darkness. She could hardly breathe, and listened quietly for any other sounds. Moments passed of complete silence before a series of whispers could be heard. They were incoherent, and more numerous than her ears could count. Four candles on brass poles lit up the room she was standing it. It was colored of sandstone, but as flat and perfect as concrete. There was only one opening leading from the room, and in a collective voice, Twilight suddenly heard the whispers say; "Go on."

She was pensive at first, standing in the room and staring at the opening. Eventually she decided to heed the eerie whispers and trot through the opening. No sooner did she do so, when the candles blew out. Then, she found herself standing at the entrance to a much larger room. Strange arcane devices were laid out in an organized chaos, and her five friends were seen floating quietly near the end of the room in a semi-circle. They appeared to be asleep. She trotted further into the room, and then she heard the unicorn's voice again. "Now Twilight, why would you try to run? I only wish to study with you."

She turned in the direction of the voice, and saw the black silhouette of the unicorn at the side of the room, staring back at her with golden eyes. She shouted her response. "What have you done to my friends?!"

"I've done nothing to them!" He stomped a hoof angrily, and as his hoof impacted the floor, the walls and ceiling broke away. She could feel the cold wind, and thunder lit up the night, as golden streaks of lightning arced through the sky.

Still, she couldn't see his face, or his color, only his eyes. "Well..." she started, searching for words, "what are we studying?"

A white grin showed up in contrast to the black silhouette of the unicorn. "Why... magic, of course. I could show you things Celestia wouldn't dare to leave with anypony else."

Twilight shook her head, the winds blowing her mane into her face. "Princess Celestia is my Mentor, and I'll not change that."

The unicorn's horn began to burn with a dark purple fire. "Pity... you would make a good apprentice of mine." His hooves also lit with the fire, as the ground beneath her hooves began to shake.

Twilight began to back up in fear, when parts of the soil exploded open. Skeletal ponies crawled out, grabbing at her legs, and staring at her with dark purple glows within hollow bleached skulls. She screamed as she tried to pull free, her horn lighting up again to teleport away. Suddenly, the other unicorn blasted her with a curling grey beam of light, and she felt a wave of incompetence wash over herself as her spell failed. He let out a deep sinister laugh that grew in power and volume, as skeletal ponies sprang up from the ground all around her.

Twilight shot out of bed screaming. It took her quite a few minutes to get over it. She put her hoof to her head and groaned as she mulled over the dream. "What a wicked nightmare," she thought out-loud. "It doesn't make sense though. I've never seen or read about half of the things that happened."

She turned towards Spike's bed, but remembered that her faithful assistant was, again, in Canterlot on business. With a huff, she reassured herself "There's no reason to be scared. It was just a dream after all." With a nervous chuckle, she rolled over and went back to sleep.

    Day 1: New Arrival

From a distance, it was clear to the ponies in Ponyville that the weather teams were gathering storm clouds in the sky. Once again, the one heading up the Ponyville weather schedule had dropped the ball, and allowed for a few too many sunny days. This was unfortunate timing, really, for at the edge of town, a scarlet unicorn in a black shroud slowly trotted into town, towing behind him a covered cart made of dim polished black walnut wood.

One of the pegasai noticed him as he crossed over the bridge into town. The sky blue mare held up a hoof to one of her team members. "Hold up, everypony! Gimmie a few extra minutes." The winged ponies listened to her, and she bolted down from the sky, stopping only yards before the stranger.

Upon seeing her, he stopped and looked up. His golden eyes met her rose hued ones. She had a look of concern, but when she opened her mouth to speak, she was abruptly interrupted by a nearby pony. A pink one who made a loud and over-dramatic gasping noise before crying out; "I've never seen you before!" Her voice was cheerful with a child-like glee. She cut in front of the pegasus, who was easily more annoyed than before.

As the pink pony put her face very close to the unicorn, he responded in a deep and casual tone. "Today I am moving in. At least for a while." He grinned, seeming un-fazed by how the pony almost put her nose against his. He could actually feel her breath.

She gasped and cooed as she tilted her head to the side, and eyed up his cart with her energetic blue eyes. "Wow! A new friend!" She suddenly began to bounce, first to the right, then to the left, and behind her the unicorn could see the pegasus smacking her face with her hoof. The pink pony excitedly proclaimed. "My name's Pinkie Pie!" Then, without losing a single spring into the air, she asked: "What's your name?"

He chuckled lightly before giving a short formal bow with one hoof extended forward. "My name is Eight Star. More than happy to make your acquaintance." He attempted to keep following Pinkie Pie with his eyes, but her bouncing almost made him dizzy.

Pinkie stopped and stared at him and grinned. Then she began to sing, "I once found Eight Star rolling into town~"

This time, it was Pinkie's turn to be interrupted abruptly as the pegasus used physical intervention by shoving almost her whole fore-hoof into Pinkie's mouth. "Pinkie! We don't have time for that!" After a muffled apology, she removed her hoof and huffed. "It's fine, you'll just have to welcome him later! Just help him find his house for now."

Pinkie Pie stood on her hind legs and saluted. "Roger!"

Eight Star appeared confused, and took a few steps forward with his cart. "I thought that was what you came down to assist me with, exceptionally colorful winged mare."

The pegasus seemed agitated by his use of words. As if she had heard way too much of that already. "The name is Rainbow Dash." A name that matched her mane and tail for colors. She turned to Pinkie. "Anyway, I thought he was Zekora, but... I was wrong." She rolled her hoof and eyes as she hovered in air and radiated attitude. "Storm starts in like... five minutes ago, so get a move on." After that, she displayed the second part of her name, as she bolted off back into the sky.

Eight Star's eyes narrowed. "Grand." Though, he couldn't stay mad, as the pink pony with the cotton-fluff mane and tail was standing next to him grinning so hard it almost made his mouth hurt. "Right, well, 4 Compass Way."

Pinkie cooed again, as her eyes lit up. "Near Mayor Mare's place and the market!" She began to bounce as she lead the way there. "You must be getting a store front home!"

"I suppose you are exceptionally knowledgeable when it comes to matters in Ponyville," Eight Star deduced. "I'm not sure where else one would get that just by an address."

Pinkie stopped bouncing, but she continued to lead the way. She gave an exaggerated flutter of her lips. "Pfft... I don't even know what that first part means!"

Eight Star groaned, and began to pick up the pace when he heard thunder roll through the clouds above them like an ultimatum.

Pinkie came to a stop in front of a three story building that looked a lot like a potion bottle if viewed from afar. It had a large rounded gourd shape for the base, only to come up to a small single room on the top floor that had a circular balcony and a tall clay smoke stack coming from the top. She remembered seeing this building here before... and she remembered some ponies entering and maintaining the place, but she never remembered anypony actually living here before. "Wow! Here we are, my new friend Eight Star!"

"Thrilling," he said in sarcastic admiration. As the rain began to fall lightly at first, he nodded to Pinkie while levitating a long old key from the inside of his cloak. "If you help me get in before it pours too much, you can stick around until it calms down!" Only a split second after making the offer did he think that perhaps that was actually not the best idea.

Pinkie squealed in delight and grinned as she took the key in her hoof, and through a feat of impossible dexterity, unlocked and opened the front door. Eight Star, slightly befuddled, pulled the cart up to the side and ducked into the door. He turned and pulled his shroud off, using his magic to levitate it over to cover the cart. He turned to Pinkie, who was inside with him. She looked confused, and he shrugged. "I usually try to keep the wood in the best condition. My cloak is water-proof."

"Ooohhh... I see." The windows began to ring with the cacophony of noise which was the downpour occurring just outside. Actually, she couldn’t see that well. In fact, looking at Eight Star now, she wouldn’t be able to tell he was a colt from his feminine frame. Why, even his mane and tail reminded her of her friend Fluttershy’s, but it was obvious that he did not brush it nearly as often as she did. If Eight Star hadn’t spoken to her earlier on, she probably would’ve been convinced he was a mare, with those long eyelashes. Of course, the creepy way his golden eyes lit up as rings in the dim light was a little unnerving, especially while he was staring at her staring at him.

“So…” he started, hoping to break the painfully awkward silence once he noticed her eyeing him up, “how long have you been in Ponyville?”

Pinkie snorted with a giggle and grinned. “Oh, since I was an itty bitty filly, silly!” She bounced around a little, but kept her horizontal movement more limited than before, not knowing the intricacies of this room. “I’ve never seen you before though, but they’ve been keeping this house really nice all this time!”

Eight Star feigned intrigue. “So even though there were no occupants, the city organization kept the structure in working condition?”

Pinkie stopped and gave him an awkward look of confusion. After a few moments she merely decided “You’d get along with my friend Twilight. She knows a lot of big confusing words!”

“Oh!” he exclaimed, “I didn’t even realize I was doing it!” Chuckling he closed the door with the magic of his horn, leaving them without any amount of usable light. “I’m afraid I’ve been in my studies too much, and those books use a lot of… big words.” With a grin, he concentrated, and a white spark spiraled up his horn. Hitting the tip, it flared brightly and brought light to the room.

During his display, Pinkie could see that his horn was a bit different from any of the unicorns she had known before. Rather than a simple straight horn with a small spiral groove, his was bumpy, and there were no grooves, but it was like his horn was twisted into shape, giving it a corkscrew-like appearance. With all the curiosities of this unicorn, she had to take a glance at his cutie mark. What she saw was simply strange! It was like a letter from a foreign alphabet, or perhaps it was a mark!

“Oh!” She bounced again. “I wanna guess what your cutie mark is!”

He blinked a little, and shrugged, glancing over. “Well, I see yours is a trio of colorful balloons. So go ahead and guess mine…” He held up a hoof with a warning. “However, you only get one guess.” He turned his head and let his magic light shine better on his flank.

She hopped around him in a circle a few times as she pondered. “Hmm… uhh… uhm… err… whee! I mean, uhm! Oh, oh, a mask! Is it a mask?!”

He looked astounded as he stared upon her wide grin. “Well… yes! I believe you’re the first pony to get it right.”

“WOOHOO!” Pinkie just about exploded with delight, but tried not to explode too much… it was wet outside!

“Pinkie!” He held his hoof up again and got her attention, as he smiled. “I would ask that you, as my new friend please keep this a tight-lipped secret! Why, if ponies knew what my cutie mark was, then they might see the surprise coming!”

She gasped and sat down, then tilted her head. “What surprise?”

He rolled his eyes with a huff. “Would it be a surprise if I told you?”

“Oh! Right! I promise!” As she sat she made a crossing motion with her fore-hooves, then mimicked sticking one in her eye as she spoke the words; “Cross my heart and hope to fly, stick a cupcake in my eye!”

“That was an interesting way to promise,” he commented.

“It’s a Pinkie Promise!” She threw her forelegs in the air with child-like animation in her body language. “Geez, don’t you even know a Pinkie Promise?! You must be new here!”

His eyes drifted back towards the windows and the rain. “Just got here, actually.” He sighed heavily, and turned back to Pinkie. “Alright, I’m going to make sure the house is in the condition I was previously promised, and ensure that there are no leaks due to the precipitation.”

Pinkie Pie looks at him for a few moment. She opened her mouth slowly in confusion.

He groaned and smacked his forehead with his fore-hoof. “Ugh. I’m gonna check out the house.”

“Well why didn’t you say so?” She asked with a wild expression of her fore-hooves. “Oh, I think I know what you need to turn that grumpy face into a big smile!”

He gave her a flat stare and asked “What?” with a voice that was as dull as a statement.

CUPCAKES!” She threw up her arms with a giggle, dancing about. “We can hold a party, and everypony can come, and we can have cupcakes, and cookies, and music, and dancing, and-“

Eight Star interjected by holding up a hoof. “Cupcakes? Party? What are you babbling about? Is there some sort of celebration I should be aware of?”

She rolled her eyes with a giggle. “Well DUH!” She threw her arms around his shoulders and got really close to his face. “We got a new pony in town! So everypony has to meet you, and greet you, and eat with you, and have a PARTY!!!” She threw her arms up and danced around some more, excited at the prospect.

He sighed lightly and looked down. “Goodie.”

Day 2: Life is a Party

Eight Star woke up on his uncovered bed to the burning rays of the sun and the songs of the birds. He squinted in annoyance and made the slow trot from the bedroom to the hall, and wandered down his stairway. Pinkie was still laying passed out on her back, drooling on his sofa in her sleep.

He decided to bypass her for now and headed out to his cart. As he came outside he noticed that Ponyville was exceptionally busy for such an early hour. Why, even the animals were busy. He turned to his left and saw a row of chipmunks actually staring into his house. He blinked in disbelief before actually asking, “Can I help you?”

The chipmunks turned and looked at him, and suddenly darted into the house. Amidst his protests they gathered around the sleeping Pinkie Pie and quite casually carried her off! He stared in surprise as they ran off through the grassy area. Well, since nopony else really seemed concerned he sighed and convinced himself that “This must be the work of one of her many friends.”

With his magic he pulled his shroud back off of the cart and hung it up inside. Then, with one of the keys from his ring, he un-locked the big metal banding holding the top of his cart so tightly shut. There was a variety of wooden boxes and metal cases, and a set of blueprints laying on top of everything. He levitated the blueprints over and examined them carefully. He had previously numbered each room carefully, and each box had a matching number written on it, and as he looked over the blueprints and went over the events of the proceeding night, he smiled lightly, talking to himself. "It appears everything should be in order."

A pony cleared his throat behind Eight Star, causing him to turn and look. Three movers stood there, wearing grey caps. The largest, a brown stallion with a hammer on his flank, spoke up. "Ah, you called for the moving company, right?"

Eight Star nodded. "Indeed, I called for a move in for yesterday." He looked down his nose at the three, two colts and a pegasus mare.

The mover nodded. "Yeah, with the rain we figured first thing today was better." He appeared nervous under the stare of Eight Star's golden eyes.

Suddenly, the scarlet unicorn smiled. "Your calculations were correct! I did not want to endanger the health of the movers, after all. It's a bad season for a cold, or a feather flu." He mentioned, nodding to the pegasus.

The movers smiled at his concern, and the smaller colt spoke up. "So where do we start?"

Eight Star levitated the two blueprints over to the colts. "You will take the first floor, and your friend will take the second floor. Any boxes that are marked with the letter B are meant for the basement, and most of those items are fragile and will require a mare's care." He looked at the pegasus with a grin.

The pegasus had a light grey coat with blonde hair, and had an apparent cross-eyed issue with her two yellow eyes. While one looked up, the other seemed to look down. Still, that didn't stop her from returning the smile with a wink. The larger colt interjected. "If I may, sir... wouldn't it make more sense for the pegasus to take the second floor?"

Eight Star sniffed loudly and twitched with his right eye, not deigning to give a response to the question. "Now, some of these boxes contain furniture which you are expected to assemble for me. I know you have tools and the capabilities, and I assure you that since I'm paying you by the hour, I'm not going to short you. However, that also means that I don't want to see you going through the things I've brought like they're suddenly community property. Though, if the job goes smoothly, I'll make sure to treat you all to some of the cupcakes Pinkie was raving about."

The mention of cupcakes was enough to bring the smile back to the faces of the movers, causing them to ask in near unison. "From Sugarcube Corner?"

Eight Star waved a hoof with a slight look of surprise. "Well, they must be good! Yes, those." He levitated the first wooden box carefully from his cart, marked with a big black B. "Now, let's get to it. I can't have my bits going to waste."

The movers quickly went to work, gathering the supplies carefully stashed away in a cart that seemed far smaller when he moved in than when they were digging things out of it now. As the colts continued working on the furniture above, Eight Star led the pegasus down into the basement.

"Agent Doo, you've done a fine job of scouting this place out. Where did you find the blueprints?" Eight Star inquired to the pegasus, showing a large amount of familiarity with her once out of the presence of the other movers.

She laughed a little and responded with a sluggish and dim voice. "I found them in the town hall while I was workin' on it!" She animated her sentence a little, and Eight Star nervously put a hoof on the box she was waving around. "Oops!"

He chuckled and grinned. "Still acting under cover? I hope the gem in your eye socket hasn't messed with your sanity."

As they reached the bottom of the winding stairway, she set the chest on the floor and shook her head. "Nope! Saul keeps me company when nopony else wants to talk with me." She grinned and looked up with her right eye, while her left glowed gently, looking at Eight Star.

He sighed lightly and turned to the box, using his magic to open the container and pull out a tray of grey stones that shone with their own inner light. "I see you've both bonded well, you've even got a name for it. That's most excellent. No problems, then."

She rolled her eyes around, which was an amusing feat to see on its own. "Haha, nope! No problems here!" She flapped her wings and hovered a little in excitement. "Why, sometimes when I sleep, I actually feel like I'm in my dreams!"

Eight Star smiled to hide his feeling of concern about what messages the gem was sending, even as they were blatantly ignored by her. "Well, as long as you're enjoying it, Agent Doo. Just... keep up the daily reports. Some of your recent ones have been nearly empty."

"Not always anythin' specific to report!" She protested, bobbing her head back. "Sometimes it's just mail deliveries and stuff." She began back up the stairs.

"Stuff? I didn't hear about the Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000 until about three weeks after it was kicked out of Ponyville, and I'm pretty sure you were there. A story about how a bunch of ponies somehow beat impossible odds against a unicorn magic-powered machine? How could you miss sending me that!?"

She stopped at the top of the stairs and called down to him. "Sorry sir, song and dance distracts me!" Then she was out the door without further conversation from Eight Star.

He muttered... "I'll song and dance you, Ditzy Doo."

So, the rest of the morning went smoothly, and not a single thing went damaged, which surprised the two colt movers. As promised, Eight Star not only paid them the normal amount, but also took them to Sugarcube Corner. On the way, the larger stallion commented. "I'm impressed, not a single thing broken, Derpy!"

Ditzy Doo giggled and waved a hoof as she followed along by low flying. "I guess I'm gettin' better at this!"

As the four arrived at Sugarcube Corner, they were greeted by Pinkie Pie. "Hello there!" She bounced over some party supplies that were laid out in preparation for the party that evening. "Come by to try some... cupcakes?!" She said in excitement, grinning widely at Eight Star.

He chuckled and nodded. "Of course. You made them sound just so deliciously delectable that I couldn't resist treating myself and these hard working ponies to some."

"Okie dokie lokie!" Pinkie replied cheerfully, grabbing a tray of cupcakes from the display and setting them out. "On the house, for the new pony in town!"

"Well, that's rather generous of you, Pinkie. Much appreciated!" He barely got to finish thanking her before the other three took their cupcakes from the tray, and his was left on the tray all by itself. He snickered and levitated the cupcake to him, taking a bite without hesitation. The taste was wonderful, like the dewdrops of deliciousness had soaked themselves into the very batter the cupcake was made of, and that's not even mentioning the flavor-filled icing. As he was chewing on it, he noticed Pinkie was staring at him, and only getting closer as she had a big expectant smile on her face. As he swallowed, she watched him closely for his reaction. "Ahem," he started, "I have tried many confectionary concoctions throughout my travels in Equestria, and I've come to have rather high expectations when it comes to trying new things."

Pinkie continued to smile, egging him on. "Yes... and?"

He smirked, playfully going on. "When someone raves about a certain treat, it only raises my already high expectations. So when you commented of how... and I quote... deliciously delicious and wonderful Mrs. Cake's Cupcakes are, I just had to try them for myself."

She nodded, "uh, huh, yes?" The other three looked a little concerned with all of his talking, but Pinkie held her large smile, fully confident of the power in the bakery.

He smiled and put a hoof in the air. "I declare that your boasting has not let my expectations down. These are better than words can describe!" He devoured the rest of the cupcake.

Pinkie Pie jumped in the air, landing and giving a hoof-pump of victory. "YES!" The others let out a sigh of relief, and laughed amidst each other.

He swallowed and cleared his throat. "So, where is Mrs. Cake? I would love to commend her myself."

Pinkie rolled her hoof in the air. "Oh, Mr. and Mrs. Cake are out on a catering job. They'll be back tomorrow!"

Eight Star tilted his head and raised a brow. "So they left you to watch their store?"

Pinkie giggled and rolled her eyes. "Duh! I know the most about their store, and since I'm borrowing it for the party later, they said it was okay!"

"Right," he started, "Tonight around dinner time then? I'll be there... but first, I need to buy some supplies. Where's the general market?"

Ditzy Doo suddenly spoke up. "I'll take you there!"

The smaller of the moving colts pointed at her. "Just don't forget our next time and place. It's less than an hour until we're supposed to move that new baby grand."

"Don't worry!" She smiled. "I'll be there!"

Pinkie Pie bounced up and down a few times. "Oh, oh, and I'll be here! Don't have too much fun without me!"

Eight Star turned and looked at Pinkie with a smirk. "I'll make sure to bring all the fun back with me when it's party time."

"Whee!" She giggled, throwing her fore-legs in the air expressively.

As Ditzy Doo lead Eight Star into the market, he commented. "So you said it's a mostly out-door market. That's far unlike the shops in Canterlot or Gallopmere."

"Yes!" She nodded, "lots nicer than being cooped up in some shop to do all your... shoppin'."

As they came to the market, he got a good look around and saw the different stands that were open. There were vegetable carts, fruit stands, drinks, pies, out-door restaurants, all with that small town charm that he came for. "Well, this is most excellent. What do you recommend?"

"APPLES!" Ditzy Doo threw her hooves in the air as she answered in excitement.

Eight Star looked skeptical. "Apples? I prefer plums."

She stopped and thought for a moment, tapping her chin with a hoof as her eyes rolled back. "I don't remember seein' any plums..."

He grinned and shooed her with his hoof. "Well, I think I can take it from here, you don't want to be late for your job."

She shook her head and soared off. He watched her fly off, and his smile quickly faded, somewhat happy to see her go.

However, the target was clear, and he spied a parked cart with a green and white striped tapestry roof with an apple symbol that had a gold-colored horse shoe in the center of it placed on the top of the cart. In the center was an orange filly with a long blonde mane and tail, both tied together near the end. She was wearing a western-style hat, and serving a short line-up of customers.

Eight Star eventually made it to the front of the line, and with a smile he stated. "I've been told that I must try some of the apples, here. You see, I'm new and-"

"Oh ya'll must be the pony Pinkie's holdin’ the party for!" She interjected with a country drawl.

"What?" He raised a brow. "You've heard already?" He noted her facial features a little more closely. Green eyes, and strangely cute dimples on her cheeks.

She nodded with a grin. "Yes sir'ee, Pinkie Pie's a mighty good friend o' mine, and I wouldn't miss one o' her welcomin' parties fer nothin'!"

He returned her grin and winked. "Good information to acquire. She assisted me in finding my home before the storm started yesterday." He looked over the goods, and put an apple pastry before her. "Not hard to assume that she's my friend too, now. So, how about this one?"

"Yep, Pinkie Pie's good at bein' a friend fer Everypony here in Ponyville. Name's Applejack, and wit' yer fancy talk, I'm guessin' yer from Canterlot?" She looked down at the pastry for a moment, and said, "That'll be 2 bits."

He chuckled, and took a slight bow as he levitated the bits from his pouch. "Not really, but I've grown up around royalty etiquette. I'm really from all around. My name is Eight Star, and I just hope to make Ponyville my home... at least for a little while." As he spoke, he laid the bits on the counter, and took the pastry.

"Aww, just fer a little while? Why don't ya come over to the farm tomorrow an' I'll show ya some reasons ta stay fer life." After making the invitation, she picked up the bits with her teeth and dropped them in a bag to the side.

"Well, that would be fantastic," he said with a flick of his mane, resting it to the side after upsetting it in the bow. "I'd love to see the farm. I'll make it my first priority tomorrow. See you at the party later!"

She waved as he turned to go. "See ya then!" She smiled, getting a nice impression of him so far. He didn't seem as stuck up as the other fancy-talking ponies. She turned to her next customer and began to assist them.

Eight Star wandered off and ate the pastry on his way. Apples, indeed, he thought, these are far fresher than I've had them in a long time. Ditzy Doo was right to suggest them, and he also got to meet Applejack, one of the more interesting ponies from her reports.

He went back to doing some shopping, purchasing some much-needed Ponyville-style flair to liven up the old and very bland furniture he brought for it. He was not known for having fancy furniture, but knew that he’d have to make a good first impression.
