He opened his mouth to speak, but his voice choked slightly and he quickly went upstairs.

Sam said nothing, looking away from them with a pained expression.
She followed. "That hardly means anything."
He tilted his head. "Alright.."
She gave over and put her arm over his shoulder playfully. "I'm not judging you! I think it's cool."
Sam watched, trying to hold in a whimper as he looked away.
"She isn't holding me ransom. Believe it or not, I like spending time with you."
"How?"
"What about when you first found me?"
Sam watched her, his brow furrowed.
"I mean.. Yeah."
"Are you sure?"
"Because it'll be dark?"
