He squinted, tilting his head before glancing across the city. “This isn’t a bad place, all things considered, right?”
She looked up at him worshipfully, her eyes soft. “You’re so beautiful, Abes.”
He frowned, but put his card down to pay. “Will you tell me? If you get tired?”
She laughed a little, sliding down and resting her head in his lap. “Perfect.”
“But I didn’t dance tonight. There’s a difference.”
She rolled her eyes before opening her arms to him.
He laughed a little. “I appreciate it. You still need to sleep though,” he said, stacking their dishes.
She looked up at him curiously. "You're okay with me not believing you?"
"We won't go for long," he said. "I know it's been a long night."
She looked up at him. "I don't believe you."
He wiped her lipstick from his mouth with his thumb, leaning back as he returned in his seat. "Do you want to walk along the water with me after...
"You're just trying to get me to admit it."
He laughed a little, tucking her hair behind her ear. "I love you too, my darling."
She fell silent, looking down at her hands.
He laughed, shaking his head before leaning forward and kissing her gently, his hand cupping her jaw.
