Her eyes searched his face for a moment before they widened. “Oh...”
(Zoop?)
She frowned, her hands dropping down to his chest uncertainly. “Why wouldn’t it be? You’ve been in love before, right?”
He dropped his hand and left, closing the door softly behind him.
She cupped his jaw in her hands, stepping up close to him. “I love you,” she said quietly. “I love you so much, Abel. I know you’d never hurt me...
“One month,” he promised, pulling away. “I love you.”
“This isn’t going to be ruined because I can’t keep my head on straight. We have something really special, you and I,” she told him quietly....
“I’ll miss you too. I should probably go.”
“I have way more happy memories with you than bad ones,” she told him. “I’m not frightened of you. I just have a few bad moments.”
He kissed her back, his hands on her hips.
“No,” she replied immediately, coming over to him and taking his hands. “I love you. But... it was terrifying, Abel. Just give me a couple of days.”
He looked down at her. “I don’t know how my heart could grow fonder,” he said in a moment of rare gentleness. “You are so precious to me, Fleur.”
She frowned at him. “Well... I mean... it did happen, Abel,” she said tentatively. “And it was awful. I know it wasn’t you, but it did happen.”
“Just a month,” he repeated. “I can handle a month.”
“Well, I can... I can hide it,” she said quickly. “It’s not real. I’m not frightened of you. I love you, Abel.”
He slipped his arms around her waist, kissing her cheek. “I love you, Fleur.”
She looked up at him. “I’m not scared,” she replied defiantly, standing up. “I’m not scared of anything, Abel.”
She stepped outside and Ferris turned to her, his brow furrowed.
She didn’t respond for a minute, her shoulders hunched. “It wasn’t you,” she said, sounding like she was trying to convince herself.
Alyssa looked at the two of them. “I’ll wait outside.”
