Monty looked over his shoulder as Theresa moved past them to go into the principal’s office. “Shouldn’t we all evacuate the building?”
"Theresa was still in the class before we left. Unless... you weren't in class?" Theresa waved it off. "No, he's just stupid. I gotta go."
Monty frowned, looking over at Maverick suspiciously. "You were in class when we said we were going to go to the Principal, right?"
Monty hesitated, looking at Theresa. "Well?" She nodded in confirmation, frowning before continuing to move. "I need to speak to the principal."
Monty's eyes widened and he looked down at Theo. "What...? This is a joke, right?"
"Why?" Monty asked curiously. "Did you guys hear that scream?"
"I don't know," she replied as the steps approached. There came a voice from the darkness. "Theresa?" Monty asked.
They were moving through the hall when they heard two sets of footsteps jogging towards them out of the gloom.
She sighed before relenting, clearly irritated. "Fine. Come on. We have to go to the principal's office."
"I know you do, Maverick, but I don't need the help of a shapeshifter. This isn't your thing."
She sighed, slipping her hands into her pockets. "Go back to class, Maverick."
"I don't know," she repeated. "But they just stabbed a girl and I saw a Possibility. I figured it was best to avoid it."
"They weren't," she replied, stepping out. "Trust me on this. It's the least you could do."
It was almost impossible to see and Theresa exhaled, looking serious. The footsteps faded away and she fell silent before straightening up....
She opened the door a crack and looked out, frowning. Footsteps walked by the door, someone running down the hallway, but it was too dark to see.
She looked up at him, placing a pointer on his mouth in a shushing action. "Stay silent," she warned in a whisper.
She blinked suddenly before grabbing his arm, pulling him into the janitor's closet.
She looked over at him with a frown before her eyes widened and a clear glimmer passed over them as she stared off into space.
She looked over at him and might have softened. "Your guilt won't bring her back, Maverick."
"Try and figure out who killed her." * * *
