She crawled into the bed, burying her head in the pillow to block out the light, and fell asleep almost instantly.
“Then we’ll return next year.”
She got to Warner’s room and entered, blinking tiredly.
“I really do believe in you.”
She made it to the doorway, shaking her head to clear it. “See you, Zaddy.”
“Why are you sorry?” he murmured, kissing the top of her head. “Don’t be sorry.”
She tried to wave away his concerns, swaying as she walked, almost falling.
“Don’t be sad,” he murmured, kissing her temple. “I won’t leave.”
“Okay. Thanks, Zaddy,” she said, pulling away from him, stumbling slightly.
He paused, his warm brown eyes flickering over to her before he scooted over to her, wrapping his arms around her waist and rubbing her back slowly.
She sighed in disappointment. “Okay. Is it okay if I come see you later today?”
“I don’t want to go. I never want to leave you. I just am wondering if you want space.”
“What do I do now? Do I just go sleep?”
“Like... leave? Do you need space?”
