She came to Zad's office and knocked on the door three times. "Zaddy?"
"You can keep saying that."
She nodded slightly before heading for the door to the school. "Let's go ask Zaddy."
"It's not your fault."
"Can you attack me?" she inquired, her brows furrowed.
She hesitated for a moment before looking up at him. "Sariel, can you use your magic to hurt?"
"Hello, Eli. I wish I could see you."
"I was going to try to remake the pod."
He took the bird gently, setting it in his lap again.
She frowned, looking over her shoulder. "Looking at the ditch...?"
He relaxed, leaning back. "Good."
"Oh, good," she said tiredly. She craned her head back, almost as if she were checking the sky, before turning to look at the ditch.
"Is he okay? Am I hurting him?"
"Were they good?" she asked, blinking.
"Is it in my hair? Is it on my head?"
She paused before her eyes opened and the birds disappeared.
"Good Eli."
They all perched in his wings, preening his feathers.
"What a sweetie. Can I call you Eli?"
