He huffed, squinting up at her. “You can’t read?!”
She leaned up against him, her head against his heart. “I don’t want to fall asleep.”
She raised an eyebrow, her hand warm in his. “I’m sure that’s what it is,” she said smoothly.
He squinted at it, frowning. “You woke me up to read you a fairy tale?”
“Probably,” she agreed. “Wouldn’t want to ruin the moment.”
“Sounds like you don’t want anyone else to dance with me,” she replied. “Are you jealous?”
He climbed on top, his old metal joints creaking.
They laid down on their blanket and Eden rested her head on his chest, looking at the gently glowing lanterns around them in the early evening....
“When we’re done going fast, I’ll slow dance with Sariel.”
He groaned before moving over to her. “Fine.”
They had found a hill where a lot of human villagers had been setting up for the lights. Many families carried lanterns. Others carried fireworks....

He took her hand and they headed out.
