He nodded, standing up. "What's your name?"

He wrapped his arms around her instantly, kissing her nose.
Her lower lip trembled and she sniffled, following them out the door.
He frowned. "Don't thank me yet. As I say, Eli might be a little cross."
"He did. I only escaped because I made a deal with the devil."
He huffed, lying back on the pillows.
Diana frowned, looking up from her drawing. "But I'm not done!"
He shrugged slightly. "Who knows at this point? There was a war about a century ago and people just... I don't know. Their morals divided people."
“Well, he tried to kill me,” she said good-naturedly. “So I think I got the shorter stick.”
He paused, giving her a sunny grin. “I have to be mean because I really want to kiss you, but I can’t because you have soup.”
“That would be a good next step, I should think.”
“This place will eventually be better. I’m sure.”
"Sure. We beat you, right?"
"I made it, fool. If I'm scared of it, you should be too."
She glared at him again.
He laughed slightly, looking at the ground. "How do you feel now?"
She grinned, obviously delighted. "You don't scare me, Zaddy. You're a sweetheart. We should let Warner in."
