He dozed off about an hour later, still restless.
"My lack of humor."
She sighed slightly, reaching up and cradling his jaw. "I love you."
"You're very kind."
She laughed out loud. "Are you calling us friends with benefits?" she teased.
He pulled away quickly before lying back in the bed.
"Ouch. Rude."
She laughed, but it sounded tight and unfamiliar. "I'm worrying."
"But... are you sure?"
"I don't know what to do with it," she said with a small laugh, running her fingers through his dark hair.
He watchedher before reaching over, brushing her hair back slowly.
“I have an excellent sense of humor.”
She was quiet for a moment. “Can we do that?”
He hesitated, glancing up at her. “Why not just stay down here?”
She laughed slightly before sitting next to him, brushing his hair back as she looked down at him affectionately. "This is a weird feeling."
He sat on the bed before slowly leaning back on the pillows.
She came over to him, relaxing into his arms gratefully.
"Huh. What a lovely happenstance."
She looked up at him, a small smile playing on her lips before she took his hand.
He came in almost an hour later, looking drawn.
