She looked embarrassed. "I'm sorry. Do you think you've been getting any better?"

She looked up at her, tears in her eyes. "You won't?"
"I am not."
She gripped his arm, burying her face in his shoulder. "You didn't talk to me for days. I thought you hated me. I t-thought you didn't love me."
"I don't know. No one has ever seen them."
She was shaking. "I don't know what you feel. I don't mean to manipulate you. I.. You don't want me here and now this.. I don't know what to think.."
"The children. The invisible ones."
"I can't keep getting pushed away every time I try to come forward. I thought we were okay.. I t-thought.."
"Poppy, think of the children."
She shook her head, knowing immediately. "D-Don't, Rowan. I can't do it."
"You're frightening me."

"That is.. unnerving."
