"Me? Are you a teacher now?"
He pointed to a small cake, the vanilla icing laid on smoothly. "That one." He looked up to the vendor. "Excuse me, I'd like to purchase that cake."
"Mm. We do sleep a lot."
"Yeah, Val. I'll tell you." *** She looked up at him. "He is?"
He nodded decisively. "I can do that."
She relaxed, her eyes warm.
"All different desserts. Not just cake."
"Of course," he replied easily. "Don't worry." *** She frowned, but nodded. "Oh.. Okay."
He smiled, giving her another quick kiss. "I'll take note of that."
She looked up at him adoringly. "I love you."
They approached a stand filled with pastries. It smelled sweet and Sam approached. "A terrible loss," he agreed. "Luckily, we're here."
He chuckled. "You are? That's good."
She went to him, her touch gentle as she buried her face in his shoulder.
"Truly," he teased. "Never suffered a greater loss."
"Then I'm not sure why. I felt like it."
She reached for him, her head cocked.
