He kissed her forehead playfully. "That makes two of us then."
She said nothing, but moved to offer Aubrey to him gently.
"I want to stay with you, Val, but it's not the best choice." *** "Where are your keys?"
He held her jaw, his touch warm.
She frowned. "Don't make me worry.."
He hesitated, before looking at the ground. "I'm gonna hate myself for staying." *** "Right."
He ran his fingers through her hair. "I love you."
She took his hand before pulling herself up. "Want to hold Aubrey for a bit? She's asleep right now."
"There's no point, Val." *** "..No?"
"Fine."
She patted the horse's nose, and looked at Jack. "Can you get up?"
"We'll never work," he murmured quietly, a frown on his face. "I get it." *** "It is," she agreed. "Without keys."
"I like you too."
She held him gently with one arm, Aubrey in the other.
"The truth, preferably." *** She pursed her lips before slowly reaching to his back pockets in search of keys.
