"I will," he threatened, leaning towards her. "Back off." *** She leaned to look at them, her eyes wide. "Can't they grow limbs?"
He laughed slightly, but his voice would break. "I promise. I promise."
She leaned forward and kissed him. "I love you."
He shook his head. "I'll kiss you." *** She beamed. "I love starfish."
He took a shaky breath, but embraced her back. "God. I'm so sorry."
She grinned. "You're gonna prove it."
He moved back. "No!" *** She grinned. "Oh boy."
He awoke when she got into bed, and hesitated before speaking. ".. I can go sleep on the couch."
She kissed his cheek. "Uh huh."
He shook his head. "No." *** She grinned. "Definitely."
The lightning did not wake Francis, and he continued to sleep.
