She glanced at him. "Oh, definitely."
She frowned. "Cry and eat ice cream?"
"I couldn't let them," he told her, smiling weakly. "You're our medic." He paused his hand brushing her face. "I'm coming home."
She squinted. "No... I am an upstanding human being. I would never."
She looked down. "So, what now?"
His voice sounded tired, and his breathing slowed a bit. "I.. I needed to save you. They were gonna- Ah.. hurt you."
She thought for a moment. "Yeah. I got it."
"I'm not saying you should have," she told him, "but it was a nice feeling."
He took a breath, squeezing his eyes shut. "It hurts. It really hurts.."
She turned, his chest as a pillow. "I know it is. Still."
She looked at the ceiling. "This is stressful."
He winced, taking in air sharply as he fell to his knees, his hand traveling to his side as he took shuddery breaths.
"I'd paint the world for you, babe."
She frowned. "Was it awkward before?"
Francis didn't make a sounds, only jumped to push her out of the way in time, blocking anything that was coming.
She laughed. "I'll do it for you."
She cocked her head. "What about us?"
