He held her close. "Sleep well."
She pursed her lips. "Do we have to?"
"Don't worry about it," he said. "I'm going, but I have time."
"That's what you think."
He kissed the top of her head. "I'll stay."
She crossed her arms. "I do!'
He embraced her, holding her close. "I love you too."
He kissed her temple. " I'll make sure you won't," he told her softly. "I'll live, and so will you."
"Pfft. Obviously." She rolled her eyes. "Who doesn't?"
He took her hands, his fingers slipping between hers. "Well, I'm going to make sure it doesn't happen. I'm going to be careful. I promise.."
She chuckled. "Whatever it takes."
His own voice cut in, scolding and stern. "I'm not going to die, okay? It's not happening. I do know that."
She grinned. "Sure. However you'd like."
"I'm going," he replied. " I'm sorry."
She kissed his cheek. "I can fix it."
He seemed tired, his head cocked. "It's hard, I know. There's no choice, though."
She squeezed his hand. "You're welcome."
He frowned. "I'll be okay. I promise."
She chuckled. "Sure."
He kissed her forehead. "I'm glad you're not the only one."
