He pursed his lips, curious to see where they were going.
"Then it should be obvious I'm not the best. I mean, there's I can't be the best."
"She will wake up," he said, his expression hurt. "I'll tell you when."
He frowned. "Alright, fine. Take me there."
She laughed as if it were a joke. "Do you even know yourself?"
" You can't ask her right now," he said, his voice hopelessly quiet. "She's not awake."
"Well.. what is it?"
"There shouldn't be pressure," she said, her voice mumbled. "It's set in stone that you're the best."
He flinched as she spoke of his daughter. "Just... stay away from us."
He raised an eyebrow. "Late?"
She embraced him again, turning her head into his neck. "You're the best thing."
Francis' eyebrows furrowed. "You've hurt the person I care most about, and yet you persist? What kind of person are you?"
"Tsk tsk. Too many secrets. Yes, I'm ready."
She broke out into a grin, covering the smile with her hand. "You flatter me."
He was silent for a long moment. "What you're doing is hurting people," she said eventually, his voice low. "You need to stop."
He smiled, then kissed her forehead. "So what's the surprise?"
She blushed slightly. "That's why?"
His gaze was ice cold and piercing. "Was it that thing you asked for help with?"
