"Don't worry," he said, rolling his eyes with a grin. "I believe in you."
She watched him go, despite the yearning feeling that tugged at her. She covered her mouth, not wanting any whimpers to slip out.
He read through the list. "Alright," he said. "I'll see what I can do." *** Callie smiled slightly. "Only one."
He squinted at her. "You'll be in charge for the day. I'm trusting you."
"If I can't talk to her, I won't talk to you," she said, her voice rough.
Her smile made him grin. "I'm down." *** Callie crossed her arms. "I may have named one of them."
He pursed his lips, quiet for a moment. "I just don't like birthdays because they're embarrassing."
She looked at him with teary eyes. "Get out."
"Hm," he murmured. "We're serious about this?" *** Callie nodded. "Two. Nachos and Jelly Bean. I didn't get to name them."
He laughed slightly. "Oh really?"
"Don't argue with me on this, Jack." Her voice was harsh, but she still didn't face him.
