Avice nodded. "I see. Well, at least there's a reward out of it, yeah?"
"Yep," he said, turning and heading for the door. "The town has a bunch of little shops and stuff. It's pretty nice."
"Well," he said smoothly, setting down his bag, "I would appreciate it if someone did it for me while I was absent, so I did it for someone else."
She laughed easily, her eyes bright. "Was it obvious that I liked him too?"
"A good thing, I hope," he said, getting his stuff together.
He stepped in, looking around. "I tried to figure out your classes so I could get the work, but I don't know if I got all of it."
Avice grinned at Jack, raising an eyebrow. "I honestly can't believe I never noticed."
"You never know what I'll do next," he teased.
"Yeah," he said, the bandage catching his eye. "I brought the assignments."
"Oh," she said, smiling as she ran a finger over where the cut had been. "I remember that."
"Water, maybe I'll bring some snacks. You never know."
Francis followed, giving Em the same look in response.
"50 daerens? That's pretty good," she commented, before pausing. "Wait a sec; how long have you two known?"
"I'm here to visit your sister," he said, shifting his bag. "Is she inside?"
"That's true," she said, folding her arms. "How much are you getting?"
He laughed. "Are you going to bring stuff to go on the trail?"
Francis stepped out of the car, raising an eyebrow as he watched the kids.
Avice paused, then laughed. "There was a bet?"
"Hmph. Fine," she teased. "I won't."
(Yep!)
