He squeezed her hand, his eyebrows furrowing. "Do your ribs hurt?"
"I hope so. Murder mysteries seem fun, but now we're doing it together!" She smiled.
"I can tell. I'm glad he's okay, as well. And I'm glad to not stay in a hospital after this."
"But, Jack! It's like a murder mystery! Murder of free time and happiness, y'know? We gotta figure out who caused it!"
He stood up, offering Poppy a hand. "Do you want to go get Tom and then get out of here?"
"Which one is easier?" she asked, tilting her head.
He leaned over to kiss her, a small grin on his face. "Of course," he said. "Anything for you."
She stifled a laugh. "Oh dear. What do you even do for that?"
He took her hand, concern in his eyes. "Yeah. I don't think I'll be able to make it at lunch tomorrow, though."
She walked through, brushing her hair out of her face. "Where to first?"
A bit later, he came back. He sat on the edge of the bed, crossing his legs. "I can stay with you."
She smiled widely, then took his hand. "Shall we?"
He nodded and left the room, giving her a small smile before exiting.
She stood up and offered him a hand. "Of course. It's always fun to watch."
"I want to spend time with you," he said, "so I'm going to."
"Good." She took his hand and enclosed hers around it. "I'm glad you think so."
"That's why I'm calling," he explained. "I'm sure they'll understand."
"Is that a bad thing?" she asked, tilting her head.
He pulled away. "I'm going to go make a phone call real quick, and then I'll spend the rest of the day with you, okay?"
"Right," she said with a wide grin. "This better not be a dream."
