"It's complicated, okay?" she said. "It is to me."
(Next morning?)
"Cause I love you but your drunk. It'll all go away."
(WHAT YES)
"It's nothing," she said. "I just... It makes sad."
He watched her leave, sighing before continuing on his way, his hands in his pockets.
"No, God. Of course not. You didn't did anything wrong, I promise," she said insistently, looking up at him.
He gave her a quick kiss. "I'll see you later, then?"
She tensed slightly, but said nothing. "I know. I'm sorry."
"I don't mind it. It doesn't happen that regularly." He tilted his head. "The walks hone are nice."
"I feel like I'm intruding, and your drunk and you're just gonna forget." She crossed her arms.
"Yeah," he said. "I was heading home."
"Yeah. It's fine." She shook her head, stepping away. "Sorry."
He smiled. "Out on your run?"
She had longed for this, but she knew it wouldn't last. Bittersweet. After a moment, she pulled away.
Francis looked up. It took a moment for him to realize it was her. "...Poppy?"
She looked up at him, her eyes bright as she leaned forward and kissed him again, her hand lightly grazing his jaw.
He continued walking, not noticing Poppy. He hummed a tune quietly, keeping his eyes on the ground.
"Sorry about that," she said lowly, the hint of a smile still playing on her face.
Francis calmly walked, zoning out as he passed the streetlights, not paying attention to anything except his own thoughts and the road ahead.
