Thank you very much Ramza. Discussing these issues with you is always a pleasure. I love that the staff asks us these questions.
More like 5 or 6. And your'e very welcome Dilly, most of us do our best to make sure that the entire forum and radio are satisfied! ^^
Ramza only mentioned 2 in the OP. Like Foxytail said, there will probably be another poll with a full list of songs that will have to go if the poll decides it. It'll give users a chance for a more informed second vote. Keep in mind that making that list could take a while.
I made the poll 16-16 , I am the ultimate stale-mate causer (Btw, my vote was for taking it off the site, just if anypony was wondering)
I have not voted, but the decision seems pretty clear to me. The Everypony network is set up to be appropriate for all age and several new rules have been added to keep it as such. Now I'm no professional and by no means am I saying that we should immediately censor all of our music, rather that we should examine what is on the table and decide what to censor based on what everypony on Everypony agrees is too explicit to be aired. I think that it might be wise and all around beneficial, if a bit slow, for a semi-formal review to be done on songs that are in question on whether or not they are questionable and that songs that are obviously questionable, despite how catchy they are, be removed. sooo....yeah. :derpe: I think this is a necessary addition to my post.
Ok, since this poll has pretty much been a stalemate from the get go, I suggest all the songs in question be posted for review. Then we can decide which ones to keep and which to get rid of on a case by case basis. So...pretty much what tenortrouble said. :derpe:
*Puts on gamer hat* Looks like it's review time!...Wait, what do you mean its not that kind of review?
I can live without a few songs. Besides, songs like Futret - Cupcakes have instrumentals. Most of the music with lyrics I like isn't explicit or suggestive, or even uses swear words most of the time, anyway.
I think this is the part where I mention that by precedent, EPR has always had a more relaxed outlook about being safe for all ages. It is inevitable that, because of it's being real time, there can not be any guarantee as to it being safe for any age. So, should we not express this not only in the existence of the chat, but also in the existence of certain pieces. As always, I have two things I stand for. Freedom of Expression and Freedom of Expression.
Depends if the musicians produce music. More songs produced = More to shove into the radio. On the other hoof, there isn't THAT much explicit songs on the stream, most of them aren't played by autobrony. Or so I think.
If only I had noticed this thread while it was in its prime. My argument would've been that there is no place for 18+ material on a family website, which is an ideal that Everypony has been (mostly) preserving, and part of why I so enjoy it here. (So you know where my vote would've gone.) That, and it shouldn't make a difference what other communities, radios, public systems do. That's like a child who says "well Timmy's allowed to have ice cream before bed!" Well, you're not Timmy, and we're not his parents. That's sort of a metaphore, but the idea is the same. We are not them. Such songs can be heard on other medias with ease? Then that's where they can listen to them. Would you want to answer to the first complaint of a parent listening to this radio from a site that boasts a family friendly atmosphere and here that? Actually, if I were a parent I think I'd find it silly the issue had been debated. After all, parents are generally the ones who determine what actually is family friendly, and they are honestly not the enemy here. So think if it from that point of view.
I know it seems like an overly complicated method of doing things, but I too would have said take them off the site. However, A couple of suggestions I would have put forward to take it's place: 1. If there are any radio edits/clean versions kicking around, then play those. You could then put up a note of some sort saying: "Find the explicit version on this link". If there isn't any radio edits available, then don't play the songs on the radio, but again, have a link, possibly even a blog or a forum with "NSFW songs". If anyone likes a particular song, then you're showing them where they can find it, without openly forcing them to listen. They make the choice, they take the responsibility. 2. Take the bullet, be defiant and say "People of all ages are able to access this stream and therefore we have to be responsible about the choice of music we choose to stream." 3. I put this last because it's most time consuming and/or simply a pain to set up, but you could either set up an alternative radio stream with more obvious warnings, or simply have some kind of "NSFW hour" or something, a show (presumably later on at night), where the more adult songs can be played. You're giving the fans of the more adult themed songs an opportunity to listen to them, whilst still not forcing them to listen to it. Plus, people who aren't a fan of that music will know exactly when it's the safest time to stay away from the stream too. If anything, a NSFW music related show could essentially be a forewarning to say "Right, in a couple of hours the stream will be playing a lot of adult content. If you're not an adult, or you're uncomfortable with this, then come back in an hour's time" or something... I don't know, these are just ideas and I have no idea if they are even useful or not lol
