"We ate ate at the restaurant, but that was hours ago..." Nightshade looked questioningly at Snow, unsure of what to say. "What do you think, Snow? Dinner, part two?" Nightshade couldn't help but notice that Snow looked quite lovely in this light. Completely forgetting that there was another pony in the room, she stepped closer and nuzzled her neck. "It might be... fun..." As she leaned in to kiss Snow's cheek, she saw Dark out the corner of her eye, and was forcibly snapped back to reality. Blushing deeply, she took a step back, horrified that she had acted so inappropriately. Though she said nothing, she was screaming at herself internally. "What in Tartarus just happened?! You're completely out of control!"
Dark gave Nightshade a small smirk of amusement before trotting over to a couch and flopping down while Snow wass petrified from embarrassment from Nightshade's aborted cheek kiss, slowly eeking out, "Y-Yea, s-second d-di-dinner.." She then quickly trotted into the kitchen to make something. As soon as Snow was gone, Dark's face suddenly turned deadly as she looked at Nightshade, "Listen here, you may have been my favorite up-and-coming soldier in the guard, but Snow is the only family I have. If you're gonna go around chasing her tail, let me warn you, you slip up, and you will answer to me. If you break her heart, I will break you. If you are after her money or the game of being with arguably the most powerful mare in Equestria, I will end you. And there will be no body for the funeral. Got it?"
Nightshade looked at Dark, her face serious. "I do not take this sort of thing lightly. I would not be here if I wasn't serious about it. I understand your concerns, but I swear, on my honor as a Pegasus warrior, that I mean Snow no harm." With that said, she wanted to end the unpleasantness of the moment. She truly did. Unfortunately, Dark had made a threat. She had to respond. "One other thing..." Nightshade's face darkened even more, and her words dripped venom. "Never. Threaten. Me. Again."
Dark narrowed her eyes, "I guess you just don't understand what it feels like having only one other pony alive related to you. I'm Snow's sister, and I'll protect her with my life. And it was less of a threat, and more of a warning." Dark simply then turned away and ended it right there as they waited for Snow to get back
While Crimson was on his own way home, he noticed something terrible had happened. The door to his home was kicked in, glass from the windows was sprayed everywhere and the lights were on. Somepony had broken into his house. He did not feel afraid that somepony had broken into his home, just very angry. He pulled out a switch-knife from his pocket. He held it as he took cover behind the front of his own home, before entering the home slowly later. He looked around the destroyed hallway, pictures of him and his auntie Winter broken as they fell unto the ground. He then quietly hid behind a turned over table, noticing four ponies dressed in black searching through items. Despite all of them being poorly armed with pool cues and kitchen knifes, one of them did have a larger weapon. Crimson made his was past the group, and eventually got past the group to the bedroom, where he got his sword out from under his bedroom draw. As soon as one of the members turned around, they noticed Crimson holding a powerful almost military grade sword aimed at the members of the group, taking all of them by surprise. They all started to back away slowly. "Glad to see you've made yourselves conferrable.” Crimson said, aiming the pistol at the sword wielding pony, his voice now deep and dripping with venom. “Now if you don’t mind, get out of my house.....”
Nightshade sat quietly and stared at the floor. She knew that she should have ignored the threat, or warning, or whatever it was. Dark was only being protective of her sister, and she should have realized that. "You fool! Do you realize what you have done?! You need to apologize!" After several minutes of uncomfortable silence, she finally spoke. "Miss Light, I am sor..." She paused. "No. I am not sorry for what I said. I meant every word. However, I was speaking as a warrior, to a fellow warrior. I forgot for a moment that you were simply a mare looking out for her sister. My reaction was inappropriate for the situation, and for that, you have my apologies."
Dark nodded, "Thank you, now, may we move onto something more...friendly topic?" She asked ***** Snow moved the two steaks around the pan, as much as she hated meat, she always kept some on hoof for Dark as she had a tendency to randomly pop up at the house. The steaks sizzled and popped as some hay fries cooked in her gas-fired oven (another recent innovation courtesy of Mark Co's home economics branch, the only one in existence). She sighed as she moved over to the next flame and stirred the assortment of onions and peppers and white hopes, whistling "The Summer Breeze" quietly to herself
Nightshade smiled, glad that Dark Light was willing to let the subject drop. "Of course, Miss Light. I'd prefer that we remain civil." She had never been very good at small talk, and the knowledge that Dark was judging her every word and action, searching for any evidence of ill intent, weighed heavily on her nerves. "So... have you heard the latest Octavia Melody song?"
Dark shook her head, "No." She said bluntly, "I don't get much of a chance to listen to music as Master Protector." She then sighed and looked at Nightshade, "I know it may seem strange that I haven't disowned Snow for what happened to our family eight years ago....But it was an accident, and I can't abandon my little sister, as powerful as she is, she's still just a kid at heart. She really doesn't see evil in the world, and when she does, she tends to just recoil from it instead of facing it or using it...I know it may seem to be a weird request, but please, keep my sis innocent...That's the only thing keeping Mark Co honest...and that's the reason why it hasn't been broken up yet...I would hate to see my father's two pride and joys fall..." She then sighed, "And in exchange...I can get your dishonorable discharge changed to an honorable discharge...Or I can even bring you back into the Guard as an Elite Guard if you want...."
Saul knocked on the door. Witch moved slightly. He pushed it. It opened. Good news, or bad news? Meh. He looked inside slightly, and saw everything upside down. Stuff spilled everywhere. He slowly walked inside, only a few steps, and called. ''Hello? Is somepony there?''
Nightshade sighed. "You know as well as I that I can't go back to Canterlot. Not after what I did." Memories of the night she left came flooding back to her. It was two weeks after the story had come out, and she was getting sick and tired of the endless questions and accusations. When that pompous ass of a Unicorn, Prince Blueblood, had approached her at the castle, and had the nerve to accuse her of being a fraud, she snapped. After leaving Celestia's favorite nephew unconscious on the floor of the the throne room, she returned home to find a dozen Royal Guards waiting for her. Alone and unarmed, she nevertheless had managed to incapacitate them all and escape. Leaving behind everything but what she could fit in her travel trunk, she bought a one-way ticket to Ponyville for her and Hemlock, and got out of the city as fast as she could. She looked Dark in the eyes, and spoke quietly. "I will, however, do as you ask. Whatever ends up happening between Snow and myself, I promise you that she will always be safe with me."
Dark nodded, "I'll be sure that I will polish up your past as much as I can in return. I may be the highest Protector in the land, but there's only so much I-" "Okay, so who's hungry?!" Snow suddenly burst out in a sing-songy voice as she came out of the kitchen with two plates with steaks on them covered in a succulent looking seared assortment of onions, peppers, flowers, and mushrooms, with beef broth smothering it all, she set down the two plates in front of Nightshade and Dark, "It's one of Dad's old favorite recipies." She explained, "I may not eat meat, but that doesn't mean I wasn't shown how to cook it right!"
Crimson was immediately backed unto a wall in-front of Saul's view, ducking his head in time just as a straight sword pierce came inches above his mane, causing the burglars blade to be stick inside of the wall. Taking his chance, the unicorn cut the handle of the poorly made sword in half and punched the attacker in the face, hard enough to instantly knock him out and breaking his nose in such a way that it could only be described as throwing a fruit on the floor. With the first attacker down, Crimson turned around just in time to notice the second one swinging a pool cue, the largest one taking out a crude dagger. While the pool cue hit with enough force to almost break his spine, the weapon snapped in two. Crimson, after a short moment of pain, grabbed the broken end of the pool cue and smashed it across the attackers face, stunning him. Taking this moment, he lifted him up and threw him downwards onto his glasstable as glass smashed everywhere. Crimson, still holding his sword rushed towards and stabbed the third attacker in the knee. After watching him cry in agony, he then took the blade out and smashed a nearby bottle at his face. Unfortunately, the last and largest attacker stunned Crimson with a blow to the side to the head. Once Crimson stumbled from the powerful blow like a drunken idiot, the last attacker took Crimson's sword and buried it deep in his chest. With Crimson crying out in pain as blood was near instantaneously coughed up from his mouth, the thief stabbed the singer several more times in his chest before sending him down with another blow to his chest. With such an attack taking place, the attacker left his three colleagues to the police and escaped as quickly as he arrived through the back door. Crimson was left in a daze for half a second, walking a few paces before collapsing onto his knees. The last thing he heard were another ponies calling out from outside the house and Saul before falling unconscious in a near-death state.
"This smells delicious!" Nightshade cut a small piece of the steak, tasted it, and grinned. "This is easily the best steak I've ever eaten. Beautiful, intelligent, and a great cook, too... you continue to amaze me, Snow." A noise from outside caught her attention for a moment, but she ignored it. It was probably just another Sugarcube Corner party spilling out into the street.
Saul could only blink in confusion first, after the violent attack. He threw his hat on the ground, revealing a long, distorted and holed horn. Black waves of magic escaped from it, as he rushed to the musician. He used some healing magic, even if he knew it wouldn't be that usefull. But it closed a few wounds, and the musician's breathing looked normal. He sighed. He won't be able to do much more without proper equipment. "You'll make it, I promise." Then, noticing his unconscious state, he charged his horn with a burning spell. He then heard something behind him, towards the street. He spun quickly, only to see a few guards paralyzed in fear. Snow blushed heavily, "T-thank you Nightshade." She stammered out, "I'm g-glad you like it!" Dark gave Snow a sly look out the corner of her eye, and instantly put on a very innocent expression when Snow who her an angry look, "What?" She said innocently before diving into her meal, showing just how hungry she was. "Anyways..." Snow muttered, "If either of you want to spend the night, I have more than enough empty bedrooms."
Nightshade grinned. "I have my advanced class first thing in the morning, but it's only a short flight from here to the dojo... And it WOULD be nice to get away from Hemlock's snoring for a night." As she sat, enjoying her meal, she found herself once again being attacked by doubt. "This is going well. You've met someone nice. You like her. You think she likes you. How are you going to screw things up THIS time?"
Dark nodded, "Of course I'm staying! I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else than with my sis!" She said happily to Snow Snow smiled happily at the two of them, "Great! Dark, you can get your usual room, and I'll show you to your room, Nightshade, whenever you want!" Snow then sat on the couch, "It's weird to think this is this most ponies my house has ever had in it at one time..."
