I can see some benefits to Affirmative Action when it comes to a business that is predominately a certain race (white, black, hispanic, etc.) and how it can bring diversity to the company. At Target, we hired extra people for the holidays and lot of the newly hired are black. I am black myself, we also hired a couple of asian team members and 2 new hispanic employees. To me, I believe that each group of people (not just race, but gender, sexual orientation, and religion) is needed in a decent sized business. My fear about my job future isn't so much about me being black, but because I am an Agnostic, and a lot of places discriminate against Atheists and Agnostics for the predetermined fact that since we don't believe in god and are not christians, that we are immoral and evil. One customer asked if I am a Christian and I said no, my team members seem to treat me differently and adversely cause of my lack of belief. I am not against AA cause I can see the benefits, but I wish it wasn't needed and we all stop putting labels on people who are in any ways different then us.
Late reply powers activate! As a white South African, I know your pain, my older sister had very similar problems, ended the Matric with 80+% average, but was rejected from vet schools for inadequate results, she later found out, one of her black classmates got into the same course she tried to got into... this classmate got an average, and I do not lie, of 56%. Gotta love equality!
Humans are humans, judging someone bye the color of their skin or gender is idiotic, we all look the same inside under the hood. I personally don't think either persecuting or giving someone extra benefits because of a difference really makes sense. I can understand helping those that are truly in need of financial assistance *be they male/female, black, white, asian, etc* But giving someone extra benefits, or denying them something over something as trivial as the color of their skin, age, gender, etc, I see no point in it. Humans, such silly creatures, * I wonder if the world would have turned out a bit differently if we had as many skin colors as a box of crayons....personally i've always wanted blue or red skin myself...but i'm weird like that*
Ah well, in a few centuries (if all goes well) we should all become one big mixed race, then racism and reverse racism will be impossible!
You know, this sounds like something that is happening in America right now. But, usually I'm told this by White Power Militia and groups carrying Bonehead or Hammerskin slogans. As a person of mixed race with extremely white skin I have been subjuect to both ethnicites that made me who I am. Now, in the sense of "Affirmative Action" being the UK supporting a mandate to take jobs and positions away from the White "Majority" is another thing I hear constantly from Minutemen and AB Brothers. Multiculturalism is always a scare for people afraid of losing power. It's honestly like the Corporate 1% hiding under the guise of "Class Warfare" to make an entire group of Humanity and blame them except their own evils they have committed. Now I'm not going to pretend I know everything about a Country I've never been to, but I've notice that we have a the same discussion across the pond in regards to our leaders and it being racially charged. It's interesting that in this day and age we still have racism and other bigotry that are so passionate we feel the need to legislate them into law.
