Just a bit of seriousness here . . . Does anyone here know of Fred Phelps? He's very passionate about his beliefs, and he goes out and fights for them. Well, mostly he does stupid-@$$ things, but I'd simply like to point out that fighting for something, whether it be bronism, or personal beliefs, or whatever, doesn't make it right. In fact, the more you yell and scream your ideas, the more people will shut you out. So, really, the best thing to do is wait for *them* to come to you. (I say *them* simply as a reference to any people that want to honestly talk to you about MLP, not to make them into a separate, lesser group.)

On a related note, as a security guard, I get called names all the time - some really offensive, so just stupid. If I reacted to any of them, I'd be out of a job, and sued so bad, I'd be working for them the rest of my life. It's not hard for me to ignore insults - I've been insulted by people all my life, so it doesn't bother me - it's just words. And unless they throw a dictionary at me, words don't hurt ;)

What happened to Sonic was a tragedy, but to be honest, I think it had more to do with them thinking he was gay than any anti-MLP activism (sorry if this is beating a dead horse.)

One final thing, I have to disagree respectfully with Yeti on one point - I don't think gays and lesbians would be attacked less if they stayed in the closet, at least in terms of intensity. In the primitive days of the 1950's, if some one came out, or was even suspected of being gay/lesbian, you can be certain they were beaten for it. Being more open just gives bigots more targets.

I was just wrong there? Maybe that's a typo? :dunno:

I agree. I think some of us were just trying to present the other perspective. Whether it convinces them otherwise or not.

Okay. I believe I understand what you mean. By the way, I'm not trying to belittle it one bit, just to make that perfectly clear. What I meant by "it's just a TV show" was in the context of the situation we were describing— violently and/or forcefully defending it, meaning it's not worth resorting to such to defend. I do not mean it in the context of relative to other shows. In that context, I agree with what you say entirely. I kinda knew that already.

Haha, I was saying "I was just wrong there." My bad! And I'm all for presenting the other perspective. It's sparked an interesting discussion at the very least!

I'm glad you understand what I mean here, and I believe you weren't trying to belittle it. You were looking from an objective viewpoint, and the responses to something that, in essence, is just a kids TV show. I just wanted you to be aware that, in the context of emotional responses, the show does mean quite a lot to a decent amount to us.

You're fun to talk to! You know how to handle a semi-debate/conversation!

And imprisoned, it was illegal to commit sodomy until the 60s. At least in the UK, anyway.

People should just leave each other to get on with what they want to do. Live and let live.

I hate Fred Phelps Oh I'm a Brony now I can't, then I toler... No, no he is not worthy of that. Anyway he brings harm, fear and brainwashing to people and exploits this to make money and he is also one of the main people inciting hate against gay, other races and other religions.

I too see this as more then a show I have never found such a large community of nice open minded and tolerant people and whether this is changing people or bringing them out. This could create through an ironic catalyst one of the most positive things to come out of the internet and then who knows to the rest of the world.

I know it seems silly that a little girls cartoon could do this. But how much cooler would our history books look if My Little Pony was listed as biggest social change in humanity or something. Please don't think I believe any of this will happen it's just a cool scenario I've run through my head that would make a cool science fiction story. But honestly my faith in humanity is still too damaged from certain experiences to ever believe, that most people would ever want to see the world become a pleasant peaceful place. I can't see that kind of change happening through anything short of a Star Trek like time span.

    woah pessimism again.

Two things. 1) I think, sometimes, hate is acceptable, or at the very least, acceptable from time to time, as there are truly souls who deserve it. Personally, I pity him, and he disgusts me. I could go on, but, well, PM me if you're interested in my pacifist-protagonist views.

    2) I see nothing wrong with hoping MLP changes more than just a few people. It's nice to imagine a world where bronies rule. I've been thinking that might make an interesting story, and I agree that it would take decades, at least, to effect the change. Every once in a while, when I see the people here, like you, spreading the word, I just kind of pause a moment, and wonder - should we take this seriously? Should we form a secret society - I could use a new hat.

Not meaning to pick on you Dwynter, but when ponies speak like this, I'm not surprised we're seen with suspicion.

Though, that doesn't mean I don't think MLP can't be a positive force for the world as a whole. But I think we should instead focus on what we, as individuals can learn from here. By changing ourselves, we can change the world around us. it is a slow process though, and will take a long time to make any real difference.

    p.s. I want a new hat, too :p

I understand what you're saying, Muesli, and that's one reason why I only wonder it sometimes. On the other hand, if it actually makes the world a better place, even if only in one small corner (like here), then does it really matter if it came from a cartoon show?

Also, I think it's just a part of my personality - I take everything in, and say to myself, "What if . . . ?"
