In any relationship, it's important not to take yourself too seriously. However, especially for those of us who are younger (and I will point out that I count myself among them, being not quite twenty years old), it's very important not to formulate too many notions of dating without having had the experiences yourself. This is a big world with a lot of people in it. If you set yourself up to be close-minded, you're going to have a bad time. The best thing to do, I think, is to sit back and enjoy the ride. If the idea to date online doesn't seem appealing in the moment then don't do it, but don't rule it out in the long-term, either.

Also, if you've dated one person and had one bad experience, don't become a pessimist overnight. This goes double for anyone of middle school or high school age, since I remember very clearly how depressing those years can be. It's important to let go and move on from your bad experiences. Like I said, it's a big world. There's a lot of smart people on this website, even if I don't always agree with them on everything; I know you guys will get what I'm saying.

Remember that it's easy to be judgemental of other people's lifestyles; however, if it works for them and they aren't hurting anybody, what's the harm?

Hey, at least you aren't still stuck in that same cycle ^^ Better to fail and learn from it then to grow bitter and/or resent love altogether. Also, if he was that much older he should've known better in my opinion. >.>

My brother is currently in a long distance relationship actually. They both lived in Colorado, only about 10-20 minutes away from each other, but then my brother had to go to college and she needed to stay here for her job. He was thinking about ending it, but after a week of not calling each other to see what it's like without communicating, they both decided that they still had feelings for each other. I've met her and she's really cool. My advice from this experience he's had is that, if you really feel less without them, then keep it going. But if after a week of not talking or communicating, you feel fine and full, then obviously the other one wasn't meant for you if you lose those feelings after a week.

I would agree with you Fluttershy that if you don't feel it's gonna work out then it is best to move on, do what you feel is right for yourself, not let others tell you otherwise, even if it may be right or wrong, because at the end of the day you learn from the choices you make.

I know during my seperation from my fiance for over 2yrs going through immigration process, and the financial as well as emotional stress... Alot of people told me "I'm surprised you two are still together, I would have given up long ago after what you've been through." To me that always shocks me... I mean if you love the person, you do what you can to make it work and so that you can be together. But I come to realize it... me and my husband are soul mates, we would have done whatever it takes to be together...even after two years of physical seperation...we still communicated with each other through Skype and email...we cried over the mic for each other, how much we wished we could hold each other...but all we had was our words, and hopes...and of course our love. I admit...what we went through was hell on earth...one of if not the BIGGEST challenges of our lives...but we made it through...and we love each other more that we have.

Somepony said here that I was bragging about my success...yes it was a success, one that me and my husband worked our tails off to achieve. If you want something this badly...you work for it, you believe in it...and you don't give up ever, no matter how hard or long it takes.

I am in fact. I am in a relationship with a transgender girl from Australia, also a brony. I like her and we will probably see eachother in real life sometime. Relationships over this long distance can be problematic at times though. Adding the fact that this poor girl suffer from depression, I try to help her the best I can to find the will to live.

I've been in a long distance relationship for a year.
And then found out that I was dealing with a catfish. Awesome feeling, eh?
