"My students are rubbing off on me," he muttered before grinning at her brightly. "I'll see you Thursday, then?"
"Great," he said, tossing a loose handful of snow at her playfully before putting his hands in his pockets. "See you then."
He gave her one last smile before turning away, pushing his glasses up his nose. As he walked away, his face fell and he frowned. "Damn it," he muttered. "Damn it."
Val waited for Landon just around the corner of the warehouse. Her eyes were narrowed and she glowered at the ground, her mouth set in a frown. * * * Arlo checked his watch before clearing his throat. "Alright, guys. Clean off your desks and take out your reading book until Ms. Meiz gets here, okay?"
Landon joined her moments later, a bright smile on his face. "Hey!" *** A few minutes later, there was a small knock on the door.
She glanced up and her expression softened ever so slightly. She straightened up, putting her hands in her pockets. "Hey. You ready?" * * * Arlo looked up with a slight grin. "Actually, hold that thought." He walked over to the door and opened it.
Landon nodded, his eyes bright. "Yep! You?" *** Callie looked up, head slightly cocked. "Hey! I made it!"
"As ready as I'll ever be," she said, cocking her head. "You're awfully chipper this morning." * * * Arlo grinned, opening the door wider. "You did! Come on in."
He pursed his lips thoughtfully. "Should I not be? I mean, we're going into a dangerous situation but still.." *** She stepped him, readjusting the bag on her shoulders. "I brought supplies for everyone."
"I appreciate your enthusiasm," she said flatly, reaching her hair back to throw her hair in a messy braid. "Don't freak." *** He grinned, closing the door behind her. "Excellent! This is going to be so cool."
"I won't," he reassured. "Don't worry." *** She glanced at him with a small grin. "I brought something for you, too."
She cracked a slight smile, but it quickly faded. "Come on. Let's go." * * * He paused, raising an eyebrow. "You did?"
