She crossed her arms as they began walking, her shoulders tense. "I brought some more tech this time." * * * His brow furrowed and he took off his glasses to polish them. "Should I be scared?"
"Like more pistols. And, if the wall is built on electricity, a door unlocker..." She frowned. "Thing." * * * "Are they puppies?"
He crossed his arms. "Why do you have that?" *** "Nope." She reached into her bag, pulling out two small packsnof bandaids, one Power Rangers and the other Mario Kart. "As you requested!"
"Because I'm a journalist," she replied smugly, tucking a lock of hair behind her ear. "And I have connections." * * * He beamed, taking them from her. "Callie! These are great!"
"That's probably a good thing; I am very scary, after all." * * * "You definitely do and I appreciate it. These are going straight home."
"Oh, so you're saying you're not scared of me now?" * * * "Yeah, probably." He spoke up, addressing the class. "Hey guys, say hi to Ms. Meiz!" The class erupted in salutations, waving and calling out to her.
"Not as much." He paused. "Knowing how much of a nerd you truly are." *** She gave a small wave, taking fabric, needles, and thread from her bag.
She stopped and turned to him. "Excuse me?" * * * Arlo spoke to them as Callie worked. "She's going to take over teaching for a while and I'm going to grade your tests!" A groan swept through the classroom at the sound of the test and he cocked his head. "Did you guys not think you did well?" "Arlo, please don't grade mine," Eleanor piped up. "My mama said that I'm one bad grade away from having brussel sprouts for dinner."
She stepped closer, her head tipped back to look at him and her brow arched. "What did you say?" she asked, her voice quiet and dangerous. * * * "Not for me," she insisted. "They're deadly to me."
He held his ground, looking down at her with a pleasant smile. "Nerd." *** "Hm. Then maybe you should try harder on your tests."
Her green eyes met his and she paused before frowning. "I have half the mind to shoot you right now." * * * "I do try, Callie! It's so hard..."
She frowned and pushed him back before turning and beginning to walk towards the warehouse. "That's what you think." * * * She hesitated. "...yes."
He laughed quietly. "I'm totally right! Don't think I forgot about that time you quoted Star Trek." *** "Uh huh. Gotcha."
"I'll kill you," she warned him. "I may like Star Trek, but I could still beat you up." * * * Arlo cleared his throat. "Anyway. Callie's going to take over now and she's going to let me know if she needs any help, okay?"
