“I’m not sure,” she said with a frown. “I’m worried it might be a trap.” *** He sighed and cracked a smile. “Maybe talking about it wasn’t the best choice.”
“Well, we are pretty nosy.” *** He sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. “I’m sorry, Cal. I just... I had to know.”
He chuckled. "Can't disagree with that." *** She looked at him, her eyes wide. "It's okay! It's okay. It's good to know."
“And i would have gotten away with it too if it weren’t for you meddling kids!” *** He gave her a slight smile. “Is it?”
She shoved him away playfully with her shoulder. “We can never talk again.” *** He exhaled, taking off his glasses to clean them. “Well... are you going to tell Landon?”
“No, you’re not,” she muttered as they got to the room with the door. *** “Really? When would you tell him?”
She rolled her eyes, pulling out a long, black stick with sharp metal spikes out the end. She glanced at him. “Ready?” *** He paused, biting his lip, evidently conflicted. “But don’t you think you should tell him? I mean, whatever comes of this, can we just deny that this ever happened?”
She frowned hesitantly before jamming it into the wall. The whole mechanism sparked, and Val pulled her hand away, cursing under her breath. The door groaned and whined before it gradually slid open, buzzing like a dying fly. *** He laughed, although it sounded more like a groan. “I’m not sure,” he admitted. “That’s why I hoped that you had a plan.”
Val frowned and stepped back almost expectantly, but no one came out to inspect the noise. She peered into the dark before taking a deep breath. “Okay. Let’s go in, yeah?” *** Arlo pinched the bridge of his nose. “Alright. Alright. Should we just not tell them, then? That feels wrong.”
She stepped through into the hallway, her gun at the ready. “This feels... wrong.” *** “What would taking this the wrong way mean? Thinking that we like each other? That’s the truth, right?”
He followed, his eyes cautious. "I know..." *** "Maybe they think we like each other more than them, though.."
Val frowned as they walked down the hallway. “This is... really nerve wracking.” *** “Well, we don’t, right? I think that keeping it from them indicates that we ourselves are not sure what we want. To me, uncertainty would be more hurtful.”
