He nodded. "Are you sure about this?" *** She was quiet before nodding. "You're right. We should tell them."
“No,” she admitted. “No, not at all.” *** The answer didn’t seem to make him feel better, but he nodded. “Yeah. We should.”
“Then we die,” she said flatly. *** He rubbed the back of his neck before giving her a small smile. “Sorry for getting a crush on you.”
"But.. I don't want to die. What about Callie and Arlo? What would happen to them?" *** She chuckled softly. "Me too."
“They’ll marry each other. They'll be okay.” She glanced at him. “You can go back if you want.” *** He sighed before putting his laptop in his bag. “We’ll just have to figure it out, I suppose.”
He shook his head quickly. "I'm staying with you." *** She stood, taking her bag. "Right. It'll be fine."
“You’re sure?” she asked, challenging him. *** He sighed and headed for the door, holding it open for her. “You’ll come back next Thursday, right?”
She frowned before moving forward. “Fine. Stay close.” *** “Of course I do, Cal! Crush or not, you’re my friend.”
She clicked the trigger, turning the corner. She paused and then stepped out into the open. “It’s... empty.” *** “Excellent,” he said, closing and locking the door behind them. “I look forward to it.”
Val frowned, stepping closer to the experiments. There was a strange ticking sound coming from somewhere and she cocked her head. “What’s... what’s going on here?” *** They got to the end of the hallway and Arlo looked down at her. “I’ll see you soon, then.”
Her brow furrowed and she strained to see. “What’s that noise?” *** He gave a sheepish wave before heading down the hall, his hands in his pockets.
He shook his head. "I don't know. I don't like it." *** She watched him go, sighing as went to leave.
She stepped forward, frowning before her eyes widened. She turned to him, reaching towards him. “Landon! Go!”
There was a loud beeping behind them before a deep rumbling sounded. Val gasped as they heard the sound of glass shattering, daring to glance over her shoulder.
