Val didn’t speak for the duration of the car ride, her shoulders slumped as she watched out the window.
She nodded. "Thanks, Landon," she said quietly, gathering her stuff. "I'll see you soon, okay? We'll..." She sighed. "We'll figure it out."
"See you. Thanks." She closed the door behind her and headed for the apartment, her hands in her pockets.
Callie's phone buzzed with a text. "Hey Cal, I'm sorry to bother you, but Val isn't with you guys at all, is she?"
“No. I told her and she was really, really hurt. She grabbed her coat and workbag and left. That’s why I thought she might be with Landon.”
"No, Landon is here with me. He took it surprisingly well. I'll talk to him and see if he has any idea."
