Back at it Again (One-on-One)

She pulled out two worn notebooks, their pages colored with age.

"Here. You take this one."

 

"Didn't really check," she said. "It's funny how being chased by a monster can distract you."

 

She opened her journal and began reading, pulling her legs under her comfortably.

 

They were quiet for a long time, flipping through the pages and searching for any information.

After a while, Landon would feel a slight pressure on his shoulder where Val's head had landed to rest, her eyes closed as she slept.

 

Val slept peacefully, only shifting slightly to pull her coat tighter around herself. Eventually, the waiter came by with their drinks.

"You two are cute," he whispered, nodding at the sleeping Val.

 

"Oh?" the waiter asked, raising an eyebrow. "My mistake. Sorry."

 

He placed their drinks on the coffee table and hastened away, glancing back over his shoulder.

 

"Mmph... What?" Her eyes fluttered open blearily and they met his for a moment before she sat up quickly.

"Oh, *squee!*. I fell asleep on you, didn't I? Sorry."

 

"Find anything interesting?" she asked, grabbing her espresso.

 

She frowned, passing him his hot chocolate.

"I do not want to have fought that monster for nothing."
