Back at it Again (One-on-One)

She sighed before squinting at the book.

"Whoa. Whoa, whoa, whoa. Look at this."

 

She gave him a rare grin, the action warming her entire face.

"I found our why."

She slid the book over to him, pointing to a spot on the page.

"At the rate we're going, overpopulation will be causing thousands of fatalities within our town by 1963. We simply can't go on like this."

 

"It's something, at least," she said, nodding. "I think."

 

She laughed and leaned back.

"It's exciting, at least."

 

"There's probably more in here," she said, taking back the book, her eyes shining with excitement

 

She curled up with the book, flipping through it with thin fingers.

"Here! Diagrams of the early timers!"

 

"Oh my God. Oh my God. You know what this means?" She grabbed him by the shoulders, her eyes meeting his. "We could go public with this!"

 

She paused, thinking.

"Yeah. Well..." She sighed, sitting back. "We always knew that it'd be dangerous, right?"

 

She sighed, her good mood dampened.

"You can say you don't want to release it."

 

She frowned, pulling her knees to her chest.

"Are you sure?"
