He laughed lightly, running his fingers through his hair. “My parents wanted me to be a nurse so we could all work in the same hospital together.” *** “And here we are, moving in together because of messes. It all works out!”
“Yeah, Ivy’s pretty smart. I never could have done it.” *** She chuckled slightly. “I didn’t choose this life; it chose me.”
“Yeah. I mean, Ivy works as a general practitioner, so she doesn’t have a lot of heartbreak, but still.” *** “Exactly. You get it.”
He frowned, sitting back thoughtfully. “I’ve always loved kids,” he said eventually. “And I’ve always loved teaching; you know, being the authority in something and then sharing the knowledge?”
“The type?” he asked amusedly. *** “We’ll be the leaders! Forget about the timers; this is the kind of thing we should be releasing.”
He chuckled, taking a sip of his water. “This is going badly.” *** “They do!” she agreed as they approached her car. “Let’s just never talk about them again!”
He looked up, alarmed. “Oh, no, Cal! I was joking.” *** She slipped into the car and started it up, turning up the heat. “You’re going to have to give me the address.”
