"I have some apartments I'm viewing." She zipped up her jacket and paused, glancing at him. "Do you... want to come with?" * * * "Mantis shrimps, Cal. 20 mantis shrimps."
She ran her fingers through her hair. “You can. But I’m worried I’m just going to end up kissing you,” she said bluntly. *** “Hmph. Well, maybe 20 mantis shrimp don’t want to date a human!”
She rolled her eyes, slinging her back over her shoulder. “Come if you want.” *** “Ha! You just kissed a very happy shrimp!”
He stood up, cocking his head. "I'll come." *** She reached and kissed him again, a grin on her face. "You're welcome."
She tossed him his coat, heading for the door. “Great. Come along, then.” *** He kissed her back, his hand in the back of her neck. “We have to go...”
He caught it, following her brightly. "Alrighty." *** "One second," she murmured, her fingers brushing his jaw.
She rolled her eyes with a small smile. “You’re like a puppy.” *** “Is this really how dates are supposed to go?”
“It’s sweet,” she assured him. “You just seemed so happy to come.” *** “Never apologize for kissing me, Cal.”
“Fun might not be the right word for it.” *** He grinned as they approached his car. “I took the kids on a field trip to the aquarium once,” he said thoughtfully as he opened the door for her.
“You know. Paperwork and tediousness. Plus, we don’t know what you and I are going to do.” *** “Abe cried because the seal ate a fish.”
He hesitated. "I'll.. I'll figure out my situation." *** "Aw," she laughed, tilting her head. "That's adorable."
She was quiet for a moment, rubbing the back of her neck. “Well, I suppose you could stay with me… I mean, if you wanted.” *** “Adorable, yes,“ he said. “But less cute when I get a phone call five hours later.”
