In the cafe, Arlo was sitting on the couch, drinking a coffee. He had one arm around Val, who was resting against his chest. "Well, I think this worked out as well as we could have hoped," he said cheerfully. "Mmhm. Once my article is done, we'll never have to see our supposed soulmates again, and it will be business as usual," she agreed, turning her head back to give him a kiss.
A few minutes later Landon and Callie both entered. Callie was speaking enthusiastically about some papers Landon was holding, though their voices were quiet. When Landon spotted Val, he gave her a small wave and went over to them.
Val sat up and folded her hands. "Hey. I found out some stuff." Arlo straightened up in surprise. "Oh my God..." he said. "That's my supposed soulmate. What's she doing here?"
Callie looked up in surprise, but only murmured something Landon who seemed confused, but continued to talk to Val. ".. Uhm. I got a few pictures."
He laid out various different photographs on the table. They all depicted people who were supposedly not meant to be soul mates.
Val tucked her hair behind her ear as she bent down to look at the photos. Arlo looked too, his head cocked slightly. "You're very good," he complimented with an easy smile. "How did you get all these so fast?" Val asked, her lips pursed and her brow raised.
"Perspective can make similar places look different," he said, a bit embarassed. "And I kinda went to a lot of places."
Arlo pushed his glasses further up his nose. "So, you guys are reporting on people who don't want to be soulmates? Seems fitting."
Val leaned back into Arlo's arm, her arms crossed slightly. "So, are you two together?" she asked suspiciously.
"We are," Callie confirmed, tilting her head slightly as Landon placed a hand on her shoulder. "Isn't that a coincidence?"
"It's crazy," Arlo agreed. "I know Val was really worried about having to tell a hopeful soulmate that she wasn't interested."
