"No need for that," Arlo said, stepping forwards and pushing open the door. He frowned when he saw the familiar figure in the center of the room , her arms full of blankets and pillows. "Val? Landon?"
Landon gasped quietly, raising his hands defensively as Callie glared at them with an intense curiosity. "Oh dear," he murmured.
Val paused for a moment, slowly walking over to Landon before taking a pillow with her free hand and hurling it at Arlo and Callie, grabbing Landon's hand and pulling him to the door. "Run!"
Val slammed the door between the two couples and took off down the hallway with Landon, laughing gleefully. * * * Arlo blinked. "What... just happened?"
They got down to the car and Val tossed the blankets into the back before sliding into the driver's seat. "Get in, hurry!" * * * "Did... did Val just throw a pillow at me?"
He did, shutting the door as he took quick breaths. "They caught us!" *** She squinted. "Did they have blankets?"
"Ah, barely," she teased, starting up the car. "Besides, we were too quick for them." * * * "I don't know. Maybe?"
"I did do that. It was the most brilliant move on my part." * * * "It was," he agreed. "Just Val being Val, I guess. Come on, let's go sit down."
"Right. They probably didn't even know we were there." * * * Arlo sat next to her before frowning. "That's weird."
She rolled her eyes as they drove off. “They’re probably mad.” *** He went into the adjacent rooms, calling out the cat’s name. “He’s... gone, I think.
