Landon was still in his sleep, his breaths steady as he didn't wake. *** Callie turned her head slightly, her eyes fluttering as she took a breath, looking around in confusion.
Val’s eyes fluttered open and she sat up slowly, looking down at Landon for a few minutes. Finally, she sighed and rested her head against his chest. “Don’t tell anyone,” she said softly, listening to his deep breaths of sleep. “But I really, really like you. Really. But shh. It’s a secret.” *** Arlo’s arms were wrapped around her, his heartbeat steady in his chest but his glasses slightly askew on his nose. He was asleep, his head lolling off to the side.
He didn't respond, only turning his head slightly as his hand brushed her arm. *** She smiled slightly, gently taking off his glasses and setting them to the side, resting her head on him again.
She smiled softly, turning her face into his chest. “Good. I knew you wouldn’t tell anyone.” *** He shifted sleepily, mumbling slightly under his breath.
“Nothing,” she murmured quietly, resting her head on her shoulder. *** His warm brown eyes fluttered open after a few minutes and he squinted, confused without his glasses. “...Cal?”
“You alright?” she asked, rubbing his arm. *** “Hi,” he said, smiling down at her before reaching for his glasses. “You’re still here.”
“You can sleep more if you’d like,” Val replied, tilting her head. *** “I don’t know. I’m just glad you’re still here.”
“You sure? I don’t mind. I don’t really want to move anyway.” *** “Well enough,” he said, kissing the top of his head. “How about you?”
"You don't have to move," he said. "I don't want to either." *** She nodded. "You make a very nice pillow."
“Glad it’s settled, then,” she murmured, turning her head into his shirt. *** “I majored in pillow studies in college.”
