"I always want you near," she said quietly, resting her head on the window. "I just can't tell you that." * * * "Positive."
She closed her eyes sleepily, her voice fading. "We got married as a joke, Landon. It couldn't have meant much if we treated it so casually." * * * "Can you? Can you really?"
"Well.. I would like to get married to you for real some day, but I didn't think you would like that." *** "Yes."
"Closest to the real thing I could get. Plus you challenged me." *** She took a deep breath. "Hhhuuuuhhh."
There was a small smile in her voice. "I didn't know you were susceptible to dares." * * * "Is... that you chilling?"
"Yeah. I don't show it very much, Landon, but I was committed to you. I'm just... not good at showing it." * * * "Now you sound like you're drunk."
"Break things off? I don't know... you're really hard for me to read. You said that you loved me more than anything, which really isn't healthy, but then you treat something like marriage so casually." * * * "Uh huh. I'm sure."
"No, it's not. We're just... we don't work well together, that's all. We're both too different." * * * "You could have sneaked in a few shots."
She said nothing more, closing her eyes as she tried to ignore her dizzy head. * * * "And by months, you mean seconds."
