“I love you,” she said immediately, closing her eyes as her head throbbed. “I love you, but I think you and I will never work. Maybe if I can prove that soulmates don’t exist, I’ll be able to let you go.” *** His keys were not there and he raised an eyebrow. “That’s my bum.”
"We'll never work," he murmured quietly, a frown on his face. "I get it." *** "It is," she agreed. "Without keys."
“Glad we understand each other. Now, are you going to come over here or what?” *** “Yeah. So, are you going to remove your hand, or...?”
“Landon,” she said tiredly, “do it or don’t. It’s up to you. This is probably the last time we’ll have the chance to be close to each other, though. I’m okay with taking it.” *** “So, you’re just going to be very close with my bum.”
“Then go,” she said. “The choice is yours, Landon. You can figure out what you want.” *** “I...I see.”
“Then stay,” she murmured, opening one green eye to look at him. “We’re never going to see each other again after this anyway.” *** “That’s a secret.”
She closed her eye again, clearly satisfied before scootching over to make room for him. *** “I see. Well, I guess there’s no solution here.”
She was quiet for a moment before her arms wrapped around his chest. *** “So... are you enjoying yourself?”
She fell asleep almost immediately, her arms loosening around him as she drifted off, her skin pale. *** “I see. It would be rude of me to interrupt, then, wouldn’t it?”
His fingers brushed through her hair, and he stood up. He found a blanket, laying it over her and kissing her cheek. "I love you.." He sat on the ground, leaning against the couch before drifting off. *** "Yes. Yes it would."
Val shifted in her sleep, her head pounding with pain. She groaned and sat up, her hand on her temple. “Ow..”
