Callie pulled away to follow Val, before speaking up with a quiet voice. "I know you hate us, but still.. Thank you for helping."
Val squinted at her, her expression one of severe distaste. "I don't want your gratitude. I didn't do this for you or Arlo. I did it because Landon thinks, for whatever reason, that you're worth saving. That's it. So keep your thanks and leave me alone."
She was quiet. "I'm a person, Valerie. Any person deserves to be saved.. I'm just trying to be nice to you."
She rolled her eyes, pulling away. "Yeah, well, Callie, I don't want you to be nice to me. I don't want your friendship, or your gratitude, or your weird outlook on the value of an individual human life. I just want to get home to my husband and never deal with the two of you again."
A smile crossed her face for the first time and she opened the door wider. "I am. In one piece, too!"
"Fine," she said, rolling her eyes as she stepped in, revealing Callie and Arlo. "They wanted to come here."
