"But, like, not in a bad way!" she tried to fix. "He told me that he kinda feels scolded around her."
He frowned before lying back in the snow and taking off his glasses to clean them. "Can I tell you a secret about Val?"
"She's actually really shy," he said, watching the grey sky as the snowflakes began to fall. "She's not good with people when she first meets them, and it takes a really, really long time for her to come out of her shell."
A small smile crossed his face. "She's a really good person, Callie. Maybe it's hard to believe, but she really is."
He watched her for a moment before sitting up, brushing the snow out of his hair. "Want to head back?"
