"So you are scared of me."
"No," he argued, "I'm scared of people who try to scare me."
"That's me, though."
"But you're not deliberately trying to scare me right now."
She cocked her head. "Do you want me to?"
He frowned. "No."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes!" He frowned. "I'm sure."
"I'm gonna scare you," she replied decisively.
He crossed his arms. "Don't."
She grinned. "Boo."
He squinted at her. "Not scary."
"Just wait. I'll catch you off guard."
He frowned. "Noo.."
She laughed, a light, warm sound in the gloom. "Sorry, Landon. I don't make the rules."
He smiled slightly. "You make it sound like you do."
"No. I would never manipulate you like that. I'm your friend."
He cocked his head. " You are?"
She paused and frowned. "Hmph. I guess."
He grinned. "We're friends!"
