Yeah, it has been confirmed that the comics are their own stories. A writer's tweet confirmed that the earlier "confirmation" we got about the comic's canon and the show's canon being written as to not contradict each other was a miscommunication. What it really meant was that the comic's canon is just meant to not contradict the show's contemporary canon, the show's canon does not view the canon of the comics as a guideline of any sort. Source? Now where was I? Oh yeah, Starlight Glimmer. I'm sort of with the popular opinion in that I've never been a big fan of Ol' Glimmering Starlight. However, I will be the first to congratulate the writers if this finale makes me care for her more. That aside, I am more excited for the likely-to-be Crystal Empire takeover by Chrysalis plot. I really liked The Times They are a Changeling and it did not at all lower my excitement for such a plot.
Karl found his axe, but not the way he would've found it. It was wedged in a ponys back, and that was rather nice, but it would've been nicer if that pony had gotten killed by it. He soon found himself battling, what he called it, a Juggernaut. Dodging between the slow, but powerful, punches, he managed to jump and get a hold off his axe, ripping it off in the process. He landed on the ground but got kicked and flew in too the wall. "Goddamnit, that hurts! You should really learn how to be nicer, you know." Karl sweeped one of the legs of the giant, and quickly jumped up on his stomach. Now, you bette- oh mother-!" The Juggernaut picked him up and threw him into the wall. Karl fell down on the ground and coughed a bit, before he shouted, "Kelar Volpus Visces!" He instantly vanished and appeared again, but above Ponyville. About 50 feet above it. "Oh, sodding- aahhh!" He screamed as he fell down towards the ground, flailing his legs about like noponys business. Luckily for him, there was a house that managed to catch him, but got destroyed in the process. Karl stumbled out of the broken door and looked around. "Just great. I tellyport one time and suddenly i appear ABOVE Ponyville! What do you have against me!?" He shouted out to nopony in particular.
